Hi all hope this might help others, I've had an iPhone 6s for over a year and recently it's been shutting down for no reason, long story short apple have recognised the problem and have released a serial number checker,

Put my serial number in and result free repair!

Hope this helps

Nice share. I knew about the program but didn't know they released the checker. Mine is eligible. Will get it sorted.

My 6 has been doing this for months. Every day when it gets below 40% - It can shut down at any point then I have to plug it in and back it goes to however much it had before shutdown.

Huge PITA.

Thanks. There wasn't a checker when I first heard about this, just a manufactured date range. Having been back twice for this issue and been fobbed off both times I went through the Apple website chat thingy and they pre-approved the repair as there was no way was I going back in for some smug little 'genius' to tell me I'm using my phone too much again!

What I'm puzzled by is the need to wipe it and remove security if it's a repair. Could understand if it was a swap out.

My 6 does the shutdown thing too. Really irritating as there is no warning. Some days it does it at 40%, others perhaps as low as 15%.

I actually came here to ask the same. Does anyone know if it's a repair or replace? My only assumption is that it's a repair unless they fk it up and then they'll cover themselves for a replacement? Will book my appointment for this week hopefully

My 6s is doing this all the time lately. Shuts down all the time even though battery can be showing loads of charge.

Just done the check and it says my phone not eligible for free fix as it's not in the range of affected serial numbers?

Thanks for this post. Mine started doing this 2 months ago. I never bothered to follow it up as it's over a year old.

Me too. Very annoying. Surely must be similar/same issue?

And my 6 too. However my 5 used to do it as well. I changed the battery on that one and the cured it but I gather the battery change in the 6 is not quite such a DIY task?

Bugger. Woke up today and my 6S Plus just refused to turn on. Won't restore or anything. Getting a bit fed up of Apple products this past few years...

Thanks for the post.

I'd noticed a few times my 6s shut down after a 45 minute run from a full charge. Had assumed it was down to the cold, but seemingly not.

All booked for a new battery FOC. Magic.

Mine's eligible, which is good. I was just about to throw it at the wall for it doing this constantly!

Anyone know if I book an appointment if they'll fix it on the spot? I'd rather go to a store and do that, rather than sending it off and being without a phone!

Booooooom! thanks! eligible!

Is this a repair, or just instant replacement with a reconditioned phone?

I took mine in last week on a pre-booked appointment and they ordered a repair kit - which the guy explained was essentially just a battery.
I was expecting (but not bothered) a swap for a refurb but I'll just be happy if it fixes it. What I am a bit miffed about is that I've got to go back again, having already booked an appointment, spoken to an Apple representative on chat to confirm my phone was covered (mentioning the appointment), and them confirming that I was experiencing the problem. The appointment was on Monday just gone and I haven't heard anything yet.

Pretty much what others are reporting, too. That's annoying. I don't particularly need even one trip to Bath/Bristol, let alone two!

My 6 did this from early on, normally when it became cold. Could happen at any time, complained several times to Apple, eventually I was given a new phone. My wife's 6S has started this now too.
