Just looking for some pointers.

I record 2 hours of video on a GoPro Hero4. I crop and join the files with a couple of small windows programs, and then upload to youtube. I record in 1080p 50fps on the GoPro. My files are mp4, and the quality is good when viewed after joining.

However the quality is reduced to 360p by youtube. I can't find a way to improve this.

I find the GoPro studio a bit slow to knit the files together. I am thinking about paying the £5 for the GoPro cloud option to speed and simplify.

Any help much appreciated.

Give YT a chance.

The higher resolutions often only appear after about 20mins - 1hr, after they have been processed.

Otherwise, check the format of the GoPro recording is compatible with YT.
Interesting, its been about 12 hours though and its still 360p. Might have a look at the Click app from GoPro coupled with a cloud account. Thanks.

What workflow are you using?

I use the GoPro studio app to transcode the file and upload to YouTube in 1080p.

I find its very slow to crop and join the files on my not terribly powerful laptop if I use Studio software. You say app is that on your phone?

I have tested my windows laptop with some footage and if I use chrome or IE I get low quality youtube videos, however if I upload the same file on my Chromebook I get top quality. It seems to be Windows related, I am planning on rebuilding it.

I get 4 or 5 GoPro files, use some splitting software on the laptop to cut to winner of the running race I am recording, then join using some other Windows software. Then upload. Is there a quicker way to do this?

I do everything in the GoPro Studio app on my old Mac, it isn't quick, as the files are massive. I wouldn't want to try doing anything like that on my phone.

Although it sounds like your problem is at the viewing on YouTube end, rather than the processing/upload end.
