Hi, can anyone advise on some 3D software please?
I'm on El Capitan and have MeshMixer installed, which I use for viewing supplied STL files.

However I've also been supplied with quite an extensive set of additional files (SLDPRT, SLDASM and BIP) which I'd like to work with myself.

Basically what I'm looking for is a locally-installed (non-cloud) low cost software solution so I can work with the files I've got to make my own arrangements/compositions, rather than create brand new models from new polygons, if that makes sense.

I was thinking about some legacy 3D software, unless there's a cheap, good alternative - any recommendations please?

SLDPRT, SLDASM are proprietary Solidworks files. Not sure about BIP - probably an export from Solidworks?

Probably find a viewer online, but to edit, you may need Solidworks.

Thanks Vaud - don't actually need to edit, just want to make my own compositions from the supplied models. Will look into Solidworks, see what's what with the various versions.

Solidworks is not cheap, sadly...

Fusion 360 will import SWX files and is free for non-profit and hobbyists.

OK thanks for the suggestions - have so far installed e-Drawings (opens the files but won't let me make group different assemblies), MeshLab (doesn't open any of the files), Freecad (doesn't open at all). Will probably avoid Solidworks.

Not looking for cloud-based services so Fusion 360 is out unless it can be installed locally?

It installs locally on a Windows box but does save to the cloud. There is an offline mode but I haven't explored that.

OnShape will import Solidworks files I believe (not surprising since it was developed by the team that developed SW originally).

It is cloud based though.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm limited to OSX only.

Works on OSX (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-Autodesk-Fusion-360.html).

I only have experience of windows installations.

Will Sketchup work with those file types? I've always found it quite easy to get on with - there is a free version and a Pro version..

Loads of tutorials on Youtube (at least there were).

I think you can download it, to trial it..

Thanks for the suggestions IM & eps, will try both - would prefer to have a local/offline installation so will try both and see how I get on.
