The issue I was having is that when you change the ip you get one of 2 messages:
The ip address cannot be in the same range as the modem ip
OR
Another one I cant remember (lol)

This link explains the quirk that you have to do to get it to accept your chosen ip addy:

Update, I plugged the second virgin media superhub into my splitter. Straight away another network fired up. put in the password and thought Ive done it. That was easy........
However, when i tried to actually go onto internet and open google i realised that its wasn't working even though my phone is showing connected.
So i started following SP's advice. It took me a while to realise that i had to type the IP address into the internet search bar to get onto the superhub settings. it seemed it didnt matter whether the hub was connected via wifi or cable.
I set about changing the ip address. I only changed the last diget. Tried changing it from 1 to 2 but it said already in use. Looked at the IP restriction page and realised that some other devices has adopted a few number. (Amp, TV etc) saw that number 6 wasnt uses so changed that, also knocked off the I only changed the last number. Tried changing it from 1 to 2 but it said already in use. Looked at the IP restriction page and realised that some other devices has adopted a few number. (Amp, TV etc) saw that number 6 wasn't uses so changed that, also knocked off the DHCP and clicked enter.
This seemed to make my old superhub not work. All internet was down. I think i may have changed my existing superhub settings if the IP addresses were the same? Anyway, after much messing around, i had to reset my orignal superhub back to factory settings to restore the internet on that one. Maybe i shouldnt have had the existiong on connected to the internet whilst i was trying to change the new one??

I think i have come to the conclusion that i am not technically minded enough on computers to start messing around.

You may have well logged onto the first SH, it has the same static IP as the second one. Best switch off the first hub, then connect the second and see if it actually gets any internet. Then you can start messing around with the IPs.

just connect one computer to the second hand superhub ok
DO NOT have that computer connected to anything else at all it should be a direct connection between the laptop/pc and the second superhub. log into it and change the settings after you do all that you then connect that superhub into the network. I do this all the time making wap - wireless access points for people. My issue was that the superhub has an odd thing when you try and change its ip address
