For those in their cancellation period and waiting for a retention deal, I read a press release earlier that said Virgin are scrapping the 50meg connection and are phasing in 100meg as the entry level option, with 200meg becoming mid-range and 300meg the new max speed.
in another press release today virgin are finally doubling their max upload speed to 56Kbs

I've now missed two call backs, both have been on a Monday morning. Tried to call the 0800 number back, but it goes to a message. Will wait and see if they call back.

Had my confirmation email from BT, services will go in in two weeks, so Virgin need to get a move on. TBH I think I'll stick wit the BT service anyway, with all the cash back deals etc, it's working out at £13.99/m all in for 50mb BB and BT TV + . I doubt Virgin will get anywhere near that!
So no further calls from Virgin, BT is installing next week, so looks like I'll be a BT customer soon.
x2, no calls at all from Virgin for me and the service turns off Saturday.

BT line going live tomorrow and my Smart Hub just arrived in the post. BT and Freesat customer now saving £35 a month over Virgin including me buying a Humax Freesat box... pretty happy with that (as long as the Broadband speed ends up where they said it would!).
So am now a BT customer. Can't fault their service so far, the kit was delivered on time, installation of the line went ahead last Thursday, all on time, BB and phone up and running by 5 pm. Getting a steady 40mb which is easily enough for me, It feels just a quick as the 200mb Virgin service.

I've installed the Youview box and it's connected up to the router. Only thing not working yet are the extra 'plus' channels, should go live tomorrow they tell me. Youview box is good, quicker that the Tivo, less clunky, nice interface.

Well I've taken the plunge and cancelled my Virgin package. The chap at their end did offer to knock a tenner a month off and send out the updated V6 box and latest router (we're currently on the original Tivo and Homehub, which are on their last legs tbh). Sounded OK, until he added at the last moment that there would be a £20 activation and £99 equipment charge, thereby negating any saving on the monthly charge......

30 day countdown now ticking, will keep one eye on the phone in case they call back wink

Good luck.

Could be entirely coincidental, but I've had dire service levels since my 'upgrade' to 100meg, courtesy of going via the cancellation route.

Speed is usually 90 to 100meg, and on occasion even tops out at 106. The reliability of the connection has nosedived, however. The SuperHub 3.0 will randomly lose its connection from the line several times a day, worst case being several times an hour, causing the hub to reboot and try to regain a signal.

Mobile signal in my area is atrocious on all of the networks, so without a connection for wifi calling, I struggle to even contact Virgin's tech support to log a fault!

There have been several known issues in my area, of which they're now supposedly all resolved. I have also had a replacement SuperHub 3.0 delivered, which appears to be behaving itself and I've gone 48 hours without a signal drop so far... Fingers crossed!

Hopefully the replacement Superhub will sort your issues then - I get similar resetting/dropping issue with my version 1 unit so they can't make it much worse with the new one lol

Success - after about three days I received the call from retentions: 20 quid a month off my bill and all the updated equipment for free. That'll do nicely smile

Need to call them up too, my broadband only deal has jumped up by £5 pm and I don't think I have been notified.

Tempted to move away as been with them a while, get the odd dropout every so often too which is annoying.

Good to see BT went well for megaphone, anyone else moved elsewhere?

No joy this year with the retention team and no call back either unlike previous years.
May be down to luck of the draw or they are changing their policy, shame but probably time to look elsewhere.

I'm not too fussed, mainly as I am re-doing my driveway at somepoint and plan was to get an Openreach line installed so can there is no digging up later smile

Virgin may be faster, but I don't need those kinds speeds. 30mbps+ is fine for me, plus my Virgin keeps going down, and lastl reason is that Richard Branson is a prat laugh. Will see what they say.

Unknown to me till a few days ago but Branson sold the company to Liberty Global in 2013, reckon most people still think he owns it.

Branson makes a lot of money from owning the Virgin brand and charging companies to use it. Hence why he is aways chasing media publicity for himself.

I don't think Branson ever 'owned' Virgin Media.

NTL:Telewest bought Virgin Mobile in 2006 and Branson became a minority shareholder in the combined business. Part of the deal was that they could use the Virgin branding for their cable services and they subsequently became Virgin Media Plc.

That doesn't sound good. I was thinking of going the cancellation route as have just received an email to say that there is another price increase coming of £3.99/month start of November.

I wonder if this is a card you can only play so many times before they decide to let you go.

Just be aware they use an 0800 number, so don't ignore any, you can't ring it back. I missed a couple of calls when I cancelled, so never got an offer. I'm now with BT.

Yes I also got the V6 box offer, about a week after the cut off date, my BT was already live.
