Well Done!

Did they call you, or did you call them back?

VM called - I thought it would be Thursday but they broke cover sooner ;-)

That said, we nearly ceased the conversation at a few points, we both had to be a bit patient. VM wanted to go with £30, I mentioned JL would do £25 and they immediately matched.

I'm paying £43.74 for *just* 200MBPS fibre broadband (ie. no phone or line rental, and no TV). Sounds like I should be renegotiating my deal.

In fairness, I do get a solid 220MBPS with speedtest but even so it's quite a lot of money really.

So my retention "Deal" was to drop me from £55 a month to £45 a month for:
Base TV Package
70Mb Broadband
A phone line I don't use.

New customers get 100Mb and the Base TV package for £34! I wasn't impressed by the retentions guy, as someone technical who works in IT he spouted all kinds of rubbish about Sky and other competitors to warn me off looking at their offerings. "I'm going to check the speed on an independent website" "first time I've seen it say "nothing" for Sky before, you probably can't get it" (Neighbours on both sides have Sky bb). He wasn't willing to budge on the £45 a month either so next call will be to cancel and see what happens then.

^^ Don't take it personally, the poor call centre worker is just doing as he is told.

Out of curiosity, what do you need that much speed for?

Me too...although it worked out better to downgrade to the 100mbps offer just before their 'free double-speed' offer came into play - then when I phoned up to halve that speed as well I found out it was only about £5 cheaper so went onto the 200mbps Vivid Gamer option instead which gives you 20mbps upload and no traffic management...

I don't, really. I don't need anything near that, tbh. But it's quite cool to have that much bandwidth. nerd

Yeah that's a fair point. He said his bit, I didn't argue it with him and will call one of his colleagues to cancel. I actually wouldn't mind moving to a Sky deal that I've seen so nothing to lose really.

Been watching this thread with great interest, as my agreement is now almost up. Currently on the 50mbit service only, with no TV or phone.

Put in my call to cancel this morning and was immediately offered a retention offer of £29.25 (down from £33.24) and one month's free credit. Also requested a bump in speed to 100mbit for the same price, but was declined, so have continued with the cancellation.

Will wait and see if I get a call in the coming days...

I would guess you end up being offered with a quote of around £23

I submitted my cancellation on 9th as well so hoping I get a call in the near future with a better offer.

I've just cancelled, could get no where this time with retentions. Last year they gave me free line rental, wouldn't budge this time. My charges have gone up from under £40 a few years ago to over £70 on my next bill. I told them I'd be happy to pay £46, same as I have been doing, they said no go.

So cancelled and have received the cancellation email. I'm going to give BT a go, can get BB and their Total Entertainment package for £22/m with cash back deals. Gives me all the channels I want and a Youview box. BB is down to 52mb, but that's easily enough for me.

Will await a call from Virgin, but it might be too late if I've signed the BT deal, they give 14 days cooling off.

i 'cancelled' Virgin fibre to join one of the Openreach fibre to the cabinet broadband suppliers (BT/Sky/Vodafone/etc etc) to save a few quid.
Make sure you join one that offers a cooling off period & have an overlap before Virgin goes.
Then you can stick with Virgin fibre if the cheaper one isn't up to scratch.
I did this, binned the new supplier due to constant dropping & far slower than advertised speed, which a few visits by Openreach failed to resolve.
Happy to pay a bit extra for a service that works!!..

One thing to point out is to watch out for "the call". It can come from a withheld number. Awkward if you avoid them.

12 days on and I've not had a call back from Virgin.

It's forced me to look at other suppliers which in turn has made me realise I'll be happy with basic freesat for the TV (we have a dish and working box in the house already) and a half decent broadband connection. I'll give them a bit more time but if I do get a call back it's likely I'll drop to internet only now anyway.

Had a call today, just two days after cancelling, problem is I could not hear the Virgin girl, she said she'd call back, but nothing so far. As said above, it's an 0800 number they call from.

I've signed up to BT already, so BT may have started porting my number across, may be this will be a wake up call for Virgin, once they realise I'm serious.

I had a call on the third day, last week sometime. Problem was when I tried to answer the call, it went straight to the automated system you get as if you're calling them back. Will wait it out for another call from them; I don't want to leave Virgin, so I fear I may possibly end up cancelling the disconnection before the 30th day, and then doing the dance all over again...

For those in their cancellation period and waiting for a retention deal, I read a press release earlier that said Virgin are scrapping the 50meg connection and are phasing in 100meg as the entry level option, with 200meg becoming mid-range and 300meg the new max speed.

I shall look forward to my upgrade. Not that I need 300MBPS any more than I really need 200MBPS. hehe

Having said that, if they go ahead with this re-grading then I might take the opportunity to "downgrade" to their new 200MBPS offering and save a bit of money.

The 300Mbps is part of the Homeworks+ package add-on, and costs an extra £13 per month iirc. It's not a speed on general availability, and the top speed tier currently available network-wide is VIVID200. Not all areas are currently able to support the 300Mbps speeds.
