I'm going to be highly disappointed if no PH'er can help here... wink

A friend is looking to charter a plane for a short flight from the South East up to Orkney in June. Have had a quick look on Privatefly.com and a Cessna Mustang shows at about £6,500 one way.

Just thought I'd ask the PH regulars, of whom I'm sure there will be a few jet users, what's the best way to do it?

If this doesn't come off then I think he wants to scratch the itch by just booking an empty leg journey to anywhere interesting, so the best place to source those would also be appreciated. smile

Cessna Mustang is a VLJ - very light jet - only 4 seats and an emergency toilet behind a curtain actually in the cabin. Bit like a potty. No room for a galley, no room for a hot trolley dolley etc. Don't think it would be for me but each to his own.

I used to work for a private charter company and we would use privately to check our quotes were competitive so I'd say you were doing it the correct way.

You could try flightserve http://www.flightserve.co.uk I'm not sure if Dominic is still there but he's a nice guy although I doubt they can beat that.

You will probably find that a return is around a similar price as the aircraft still has to fly back.

Naturally there's an app for such things, search for JetSmarter

Annual membership is pretty steep if you're only after one flight but many empty leg seats can be found to interesting places if that's what you're after.

...and no, I've not used it to book anything; I was just interested in how something like that might work when I was looking at how to get to a wedding and back quickly.

One of my lady friends works for Victor Jets, you can get a quote for what you need from this page.

They come highly recommended, and not just because I know them,,everyone who has used them comes back to use them again.

Hope it helps.

You can probably get something with propellers a bit cheaper, might well be roomier as well. If he wants an empty leg in a Cessna Mustang try Blink jet, prices start at around £1000.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, I knew PH wouldn't let me down! smile

I was wrong in my OP, the price I mentioned was actually a return trip, however I think the trip to Orkney is off the cards now. Mate has decided he doesn't want to spend that much going to Orkney, when he can spend less, on a better jet (one with room for some drinks with any luck!) by just flying an empty leg to somewhere like Paris or Berlin.

Will give him a shout later and we'll do some digging!

O/T but wasn't there a thread/post on here about a guy who flew on one of these with important business colleagues/clients and he got the sts, begged to use the lav, then had to awkwardly had to go with only a chest-high curtain separating him and the other travellers? Can't see it in the known threads so maybe it was another forum...

For something a bit different you could try PDG for a helicopter. I have used them, their service is first class.
We did a similar trip and basically we got ourselves to Glasgow and they picked us up and flew us to the island and then later returned us.
