I have ordered my S8 today.
Was considering the + but the S8 is expensive enough.....
only benefit to me was the 500mah longer battery but I'm sure aftermarket power pack cases will become available for the S8

I'm on the S6 currently and it's served me well so will be happy to upgrade, although battery life lately seems poor and it's general performance is slow, but it is right on the edge of the inbuilt 32GB memory so I guess that's to be expected.

Really? I find the camera on my S7 Edge crap. I'm sure it never used to be but at some point it started over processing photos and making them look piss poor.
Perhaps you accidentally activated some settings that changed something.
The camera on my S5 was already head and shoulders better than any phone camera I've had since my old Nokia N8. The 7 builds on that with more tweakability and manual control, better HDR and better night time performance.

So, going off topic a tad, if one doesn't want a big phone, but wants a high spec device and android the answer is Pixel.

Right?
if you have £££ to spend then yes.
Or perhaps the OnePlus 3T ? Same processor and screen resolution as the Pixel, but considerably cheaper. My only concern is they're apparently very susceptible to moisture damage.
I actually just went from a OP3 to a Pixel XL and they aren't in the same league. Pixel has a higher quality feel, much better camera, smoother software and a higher resolution screen.

Unless you're talking about the regular Pixel which does have a 'low' res screen, but then it's a half inch smaller in the screen so not really the same size category.
Yes - the OP3T is pretty much equivalent to the Pixel - same resolution & size screen as each other. I'm hoping the OnePlus 4/5 has a larger, higher resolution screen..

I think you're confusing the Pixel and Pixel XL. The 3T has the screen size of the XL but resolution of the Standard Pixel. The standard Pixel is a 5" screen and about 10mm shorter than the 3T.

Nothing new, Microsoft have had it (Continuum) on the high end Windows phones for 18mnths, and I think somebody else had tried something similar before MS.
Ubuntu phones have been doing this as well without the need to spend an extra £££ on hardware

Just ordered the s8+, only £8 a month more than my current s6 but I'm getting much more data with the new one. The lady at Carphone warehouse after some charms and sweet talking , let me hold a pre production model in the back room of the store. Feels very impressive and not as big as I thought. Now a long 3 weeks to wait, so excited. 20th April will be a good day wink

I must say, I do think it's a lot of money for a pocket computer, but at least the Samsung looks like it's a very premium device.

Seems reasonably priced enough, on Vodafone.
24GB contract is £100 upfront & £42/mth, total of £1108.
Compared to O2's 30GB contract @ £1544, even the 10GB option is £1404.

Just a shame Vodafone is generally poop round my way

I've been due an upgrade from my HTC One M9 since December but none of the phones around then (or since) have really interested me. I was close to ordering a Pixel but availability of the accessories at the time I went in was an issue so I didn't and have subsequently decided it wasn't enough of a jump up for me anyway.

The S8 caught my attention and I've been following the leaks with interest, I watched the "announcement" live stream and decided to take a chance without having held one, so yesterday morning an S8+ in grey was ordered, it's due on the 20th. I may regret it but if the camera is OK and the general performance better than my M9 I'll be OK.

I'd thought Google Tango would have been more widely integrated in phones this year and this was one of the reasons I waited to change, presumably 20 new devices with it will appear on the 21st of April smile

Was waiting for this to be announced with a view to replace my iPhone 5s. Starting to think that the LG G6 has more going for it though.

Has anyone done a comparison yet of LG G6 vs. Samsung S8? I can still only find comparisons based on rumours.

ETA: This maybe one...

I came from a Lumia 1020 so that kind of spoiled me, however, when I first got my S7 Edge the camera was fine. At some point it started over sharpening everything and adding some sort of noise filter to peoples faces. It's not every photo though, just whenever it feels like it. It's somewhat frustrating. I use auto mode most of the time.

How was the Lumia 1020? I had a Lumia 800, it was sold on having a super camera - certainly it had a Zeiss lens etc etc but I found the photos came out dreadful. Frustratingly it looked like a software thing as when you were lining the shot up they always looked like they were going to come out great but then viewing the actual photo on any other machine the colours were all washed out and images lacked detail. As if somehow there was some kind of processing on the phone screen that made them look vibrant and lifelike but then when viewed elsewhere they were undercooked.

Just pre-ordered the S8, O2 had a Samsung rep in with both devices.. S8 fits perfectly in your hand, the S8+ is just huge.. Incredible screens, but S8 was just right.

Next to my wife's iPhone 7, her screen looked like an etch-a-sketch!

Went for Black, although Orchid Grey was lovely too. Hoping the S9 will be even better and will upgrade for free next year.

The camera on the 1020 was great, I think Lumia's had OLED screens so that may be why the colours looked different elsewhere?

Mobile Phones Direct have the S8+ for £724.99 which is the cheapest I've seen it.

Will the S8 be better for VR applications, might have been discussed. Screen resolution etc.

Places like the Verge think so.

Very tempted as it will be the only way I'll experience VR 'day to day' as proper VR rigs are still way to expensive for me.

That might be part of it but I'm not sure. You'd line the shot up and it looked awesome, but then even when you went through the gallery on the phone itself there was noticeably less vibrance etc

Whilst the S8 looks great, I have only had my S7 for a year and it is still going strong. I will probably wait for the S9. Had the 3,5 and now 7.
I may even, god forbid, see what the iPhone 8 has to offer for it's 10th anniversary. Was not impressed with the last one I had though (3g).

I heard it'll have a headphone jack.
