Ditch BT for Vodafone?

Got a BT line and broadband over at an ex's place; absolutely diabolical customer service. Half of the problem is with Openreach, who are grossly incompetent, but BT themselves are barely any better.

Got a Vodafone line here at home, just regular broadband - ~38mbps. A few hiccups on the initial setup, albeit nothing major - call to customer services (which is based somewhere around Stoke IIRC) and it was sorted out in minutes.

The Vodafone BB is also via Openreach. If a visit to your house is required, an Openreach engineer will roll up..

Just after this last post I called customer services to get BT Sport cancelled and was told they couldn't do it until after the 8th (when I move to VF) as they couldn't have more than one open request on my account at any one time. Just called another number I found in an email and they did it straight away, albeit after spending ages trying to get me to stay. Among the things I've just been told were:

- you service with any other provider will not be as good as BT's
- other providers change your phone line, which is why they can offer a cheaper service than BT
- I can bring down the cost to match Vodafone's 76mb package if you drop to our 55mb package
- You can have BT TV for £10 a month, saving you over £20 a month on your TV compared with your Sky package, although I admit the Sky product is better
- You must have had a reason to take BT Sport from us in the first place so surely there's a reason you would want to keep it. He didn't understand when I said I only took it because it was free.

All part of the business model I know, but it's painful that you can sign up for stuff online but can't cancel online...

I guess when calls are recorded or monitored "for training purposes" the poor sods have to go through every script they're given. What a stty job.

So today was change over day. I was advised to plug in the new router by 8am and that it would take up to midnight for my VF broadband to activate.

By 6am I was up and running on Vodafone thumbup

Just done a quick speed test and I'm getting 71mb down and 18mb up - I used to get 74/18 with BT and I know there's a settling in period, but either way I'm more than happy with that.

So far so good...
