A friend has just bought an HDMI cat6 extender from eBay to connect his BT Youview box to a second TV in the dining room. It uses the LKV372 chipset, single ethernet cable, IR, and has local loop out.
It basically works, but the receiver needs to be reset each time the remote TV is switched on, or the TV doesn't sync properly - screen keeps going blank, audio is garbled, or picture suffers from lines and sparklies.

Is this a "feature" of all these devices?
Will it improve when he gets the correct cat6 cable? It's currently being tested with both TVs in the same room, using a 2m cat5 patch cable.

Does it have any DIP switches to adjust for cable length? I've had issues with very short cables.

It doesn't have any switches.
I think it's a "handshake" problem, as the TV displays different resolution messages each time it goes blank.

If the reset button on the receiver is pressed after the TV is switched on, the picture is perfect, and stays that way until the TV is turned off and back on again.

Do you have a link to the extender?

CAT5 or CAT6 shouldn't reaslly make a difference over short distances, esp on 1080p.

And no, it is not a feature.

I have three TVs linked via HDMI extenders and they all pop off when another TV is switched on/off, but they recover themselves very quickly. I think it must upset the load or something.

Change the HDMI output setting for the sources to it lowest setting and then slowly increase it one level at a time to see when it fails.

Also not all hdmi extenders are the same.

We only use HDBT versions because they have a proven chipset that is very reliable if the cable is good.

Sounds like the hdcp (I think) hand shake. My PS 3 has the same issue. Unplugging the hdmi cable sorts it. You can turn it off on some systems

The non ip lenkeng ones are ste, and the ip ones slightly less ste. Fit hdbt or multimedia solutions ones and be done with the headaches.

How much do you have to pay to get one that works, hdbt? Some are rather expensive.

For a good budget version 60m max, have a look at the Labgear one, Poe & loop out, sold loads to installers never heard of a problem.(HDMX60K)

Lots look very similar but vary in quality massively. The chinese are great at making ste look like good products. Lenkeng is not labgear. I have not had any problems with multimedia solutions kit from eurosat or solutions group

An update on this.

My friend fitted a cat6 cable, which cured the picture sparklies and audio problems, although he is still getting dropouts for a couple of seconds (blank screen, no audio). The dropouts happen when the fridge freezer starts up, and when power to his shed is switched off from inside the house.

The shed switching off is strange, as it happens even if the CU in the shed is switched off, so no load, just a few metres of mains cable plugged into a socket in the house.

Nothing else in the house causes the problem. Microwave, washing machine, tumble drier, kettle, hair drier, electric shower - none of these cause a problem.

We have fitted clip on ferrite rings to each end of the power cables between the wall warts and the extender boxes. This made no difference.

Is there anything else we can try, short of trying a different make of extender?
As I said, the picture and audio are perfect (as good as using a short HDMI cable), just the TV goes blank for 2 seconds every half hour or so.
