Cheap android phone with big screen
Discussion
G4 Plus is where my money would be going if you want cheap but good. The G5 has just been released and the G5 Plus is due to come out soon which should push prices down. I'm not convinced that either is a huge upgrade.
That being said, if you stretch a bit I picked up the Moto Z for £300 (reduced from £500) from Motorola/Lenovo a couple of weeks ago. So far it's been brilliant and it's modern enough that it should be reasonably future proof. Not sure when they'll next do a deal on it for that price but worthy of consideration.

Have a look at the Huawei P9 and P9 Lite too. Bought my wife a P9 Lite and have been really, really impressed with it (after stripping off all the Huawei bloatware and reverting to stock Android launcher, in any case).
The Lite can be had for under £200. Not quite as large a screen estate as the Moto G4 Plus, but a better panel and a higher hardware spec. Most reviews seem to cite poor battery life but in our experience this is caused largely by the Huawei launcher; with the stock Android launcher she's achieving better battery life with it than I am with my Nexus 6P.
