My Panasonic VT30 was purchased just under 6 years ago with an extended (Panasonic) 6 year warranty. The warranty expires on 30 June 2017.

Just under 3 weeks ago, the TV made a small exploding noise and would not switch on - attempting to switch it on results in 7 red flashes which I believe signifies a certain type of fault.

I've taken the TV to a Panasonic approved repair centre and on Friday it will be 3 weeks that it will be there. I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks at most but I think this is stretching it now.

I have been in touch with Panasonic UK Support (although I'm certain the operators sound European or South American) and they state:

Please accept my apologies for all of the inconveniences that this case has created.

I would like to kindly inform you that we have looked into this and, at
this point, we would advise to proceed with the repair of the television.

Please note that the service center might be able to offer you a loan
television while the unit is being repaired. Please be advised that this
is a service that Regional Repair Center might offer or not; you will
have to contact them and they will be able to provide you with additional
information.

What we can offer in this situation would be to extend the warranty for
three additional months.

I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However,
of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate
to contact us.

Regarding your query, please be advised that I was able to further
look into this and the parts for your television have been sent to
Germany for repair.

Please rest assured that, as soon as the parts are repaired, they
will be sent back to the service center.

I would advise you to contact the Regional Repair Centre for future
updates in regards to this.

I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you.
However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do
not hesitate to contact us.

I don't think it will be fixed by this week so is it reasonable to be waiting 4 weeks for a repair?

I'd say that might not actually be too bad if they're actually having to repair a component as opposed to just swapping in a new module.

At least it looks like they're trying to repair the thing.

6 years is a long time in TV tech and gven plasma's are now old hat I suspect you're in the realms of obsolete and have to take what they can do. A few years ago we had a Panasonic plasma that developed a screen fault when out of warranty and to my surprise they fixed it and according to the service centre it cost nearly the same for the screen replacement repair as what we'd paid for the tv. For me that created a good vbe and I've never bought anything but Panasonic tv's since.
