Hi Guys,

I have been getting an annoying little pop up ballon on my taskbar at the bottom of the screen that I just can't get rid of. It is advertising Anti Vermins and just won't go away and it keeps popping up every 60 seconds.

It has nestled itself in there. My 'System Alert' warning keeps flashing all the time and this ballon pops up every 60 seconds.

I have Windows XP. I have swept the system for spyware etc but it just does not stop.

Any idea's?

Thanks

You'll need a virus killer. A mate of mine had a similiar problem and he had so many impossible to remove viruses we ended up reinstalling windows in the end, ideally you would install anti-spyware/virus before first surfing the internet...

He did have a penchant for dodgy east european webcam sites however, so he was asking for it...

I've had a couple of computers at work with similar issues. You'll need to go to control panel, then click on add or remove programs. Have a look for any programs you don't recognise that look like anti-virus or anti-spyware programs and remove them, followed by a reboot. If it's still there after you're sure all the programs in the list are ok then right click on my computer, click the system restore tab, and then tick the turn off system restore box. Reboot the system again (this deletes all your system restore points). Right click again on my computer, click the system restore tab, and now untick the turn off system restore box, followed by another reboot for good measure! If it's still there after all that then let me know.

As many have, I've had this happen a few times; there are a few free spyware/virus tools to use BUT there are also some scam ones - which are what they purport to prevent. I did it by identifying what the name of the pop-up or program was, (add/remove programs to ID it), googling it and looking through the many tech forums. Almost undoubtedly someone in the world has the same problem, found a fix and was good enough to post the solution.

Some will have altered your registry settings so rebooting even after a restore will have no effect in some cases.

Try this link... www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html

This is Spybot for removing spyware. Make sure you update the software before you scan. What anti-virus software are you currently running?

The other annoying thing is, if you're using something like Norton or Symantec anti-virus then with a deft flick of the wrist... it can be disabled, never to work properly again. Being the two most common AV packages, they're the two that most new viruses disable before going about their business. This is one of the reasons why I (and others) recommened either AVG or nod32

However, get yourself copies of AdAware and Spybot S & D, install them, update them (much like you would an anti-virus package) and run AdAware, let it commit acts of genocide and then, once completed run SpyBot.
Reboot in to safe mode.
Repeat.

If you don't have any form of Anti-Virus installed I'd recommend going and getting AVG-Free before doing the spyware sweep.

If they won't correct the problem; then I'd suggest making a backup of your documents/e-mail as best as possible. Then commit an act of Genocide on Windows itself.
