After upgrading from xp to vista, outlook express to outlook, and plenty of other improved software changes, Ive come up against dozens of new queries. Solved em all myself so far, but cant seem to import my old "Outlook express" contacts into outlook without creating duplicates. Can anyone provide step by step instructions on how to do this - it just doesnt seem to "not" create duplicates, regardless of what method you use to try and import the address book.
Another gripe, is that I had several hundred contacts in various folders, and the folders (saved as csv I think, in a .wab) never seemed to carry across from one outlook express export into another outlook express import on xp and previous machines. Again, is that possible, or do folders simply not carry across?

I found when moving from one machine to another is just drag and drop the messages from Outlook into a folder I have just created and slowly go through them like that. Not sure about contacts.
OT: Great machines. I always think the TV series of Hitchhikers Guide's Deep Thought was based on that shape.

Trouble with contacts though, was that after opening the old .wab file, an auto import routine for muppets started, there was no opportunity to drag and drop contacts (which worked on xp) from the old addy book to the new one OT: Great machines. Trying to be helpful for a change, is there any way in old Outlook or whatever to export contacts as industry standard vCard format files, and then importing those? Messing about with CSVs and whatever is all very well and good but if any of your contacts contain european accented characters (esp. non-western unicode stuff, the Polish are particularly good at causing aggro) then Windows utilities do a fine job of ing them up completely.
I'd have thought that MS would make sure Outlook -> Outlook upgrade would work seamlessly, but if it doesn't then try going via a standards-based route in a lift-and-shift data migration paradigm...

I spent a while going through all the addresses one by one and have pretty much sorted them out.
Only, the outlook 2007 address book seems rather simple
There are only three fields.
Name | Display Name | Email address
And clicking on either of them doesnt resort them
Tools and options only brings up a couple of options, the address book seems like a scaled down version of XP's outlook express address book. Anyone know what I might have done wrong, or how to change the display of the various contacts?
I did for a few minutes have an outlook layout which reminded me of outlook on an NT workstation I used to use, but havent figured out how to get it back. Office 2007 is rather... different from xp, and like word 2007, takes a bit of getting used to.
