I'm presently re-designing a letter heading for my local club.

It is to include a header (club name, address and logo) footer (just document number) which I've already put in place using the view/header and footer thing.

My problem is that we need to put several logos in a left hand margin. Easy enough so far, but we need them to be inaccessible like the header so the average numpty (yep, I'm probably one) can't alter or move them by mistake (or intentionally)

I know exactly what I need here, but finding it increasingly difficult to describe...

Basically, is there a way of locking this document and saving it so it has a text area which anyone can write in, but header and margins are locked?

Hope this makes some sense?

Create an original and save it as a Word template? (.dot)

Create one picture file that contains all the logos you need arranged in the correct layout.

In the header, insert the picture and set it to be "behind text".

In the main body of the document, set the left margin to be clear of your logos.

Save the finished article as a template.

Thanks guys, but still not what I need.

Setting as a template still allows people to mess with the logos.

Setting one big picture in the header is not happening for me as the header will not travel far enough down the page to allow the (now resized) image to fit. I also need some text in this margin as well as the images.

I've messed with the margins but it still won't have it.

Going to have another play after a large mug of tea smile

By setting the picture to be "behind" the text, it ought to travel as far down the page as it needs whilst leaving the header up at the top (the header will then only expand as far as it needs to to squeeze in any header text you specify). Any text that needs to be on the left could be inserted into the picture file at an appropriate place. Yes the picture in the header is still available to be manipulated but as it's all one pic rather than several it should severely limit the scope of available fiddles.

Are you really that worried about people messing with the documents they produce from your template? As they'll be their documents in the end, surely you can't expect to be able to limit them so severely?
