For the past two days my internet seems to have gone crazy. Whenever I open the net or even start a new page, or click on a link I get this message along the following lines:

"A website wants to open using web content...this programme will open outside of Protected mode...if you do not trust this website do not open this programme"

I don't understand it, I've never had this before so I don't know where this message has come from! Any help would we appreciated!

Thanks

Sounds to me like some spyware has installed itself on your pc. Check if your internet explorer home page has changed and if so change it back, then use some of the free spyware checking software out there such as 'spybot S & D' or 'spywareblaster'. you can google for these.

When you install them, make sure you check for updates before running them to make sure you've got the most recent definitions.

Hummmmmm,scratchchin.. sounds like it could just be an IE security setting that has been changed. You might try in Internet Explorer going to "Tools"> "Internet Options"> "Security" Tab and click on the "reset all zones to default level" button and see if that helps. If not then:

Use Spywareblaster once your system is clean to keep the crap off. It has no scanning component. Substitute Ad-Aware and/or Windows Defender and scan in Safe Mode.

Have tried ad aware but that hasn't helped. I have chenages my settings to default too. I have just downloaded sypwareblaster but that doesn't seem to do a search - it seems to be a more active internet monitoring thing.

With ad-aware would I delete or quarantine?

Argh! I had installed and run AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy and Spywareblaster. In addition I have reset the internet settings but it hasn't had the desired effect - I still get this "Rundle32" message!

Help please!

With Ad-Aware I usually quarantine the suspected bad files, then after some time when I know everything is O.K. with the computer, I then delete the quarantine.

This message that you are getting is Rundle32 or actually Rundll32?

Are you scanning with your anti-spyware programs in safe mode?

Yes sorry you are right - its Rundll 32. Not sure about how to scan in safe mode. What is Rundll 32?

Open Windows Task Manager, (right click on the Taskbar then left click on Task Manager). Click on the "Processes" Tab. Is there more than 1 instance of rundll32.exe running? If so then one of them is going to be a virus, worm, Etc.

What is giving you the rundll32 warning? Windows? Ad-Aware? Spybot S&D?

Here are 2 different ways to boot into safe mode:

(tap the F8 key)

Here is what rundll32.exe is:

If you can stand not having a full screen that works properly.
