Idiot question - CD writing?

Right. I want to install a cd writing slot into my computer. I have prized open the blank hole, and there is a lead that says 'aux power', a couple of others, and at the back there is a massive ribbon type cable. Half way down this, it looks like there is a socket spliced in. Is this where i plug in my writing device?
If it ends up too complicated, i shall have to ring a computer shop, but id like to have a go first.
