Frustation time! My laptop crashed and so need to reinstall everything, naturally the re-installed iTunes won't reconise all the songs/albums on my Ipod and there seems to be no way to upload them back to the laptop, this sucks. What it wants to do though is erase everything on my ipod instead!
Any ideas to get the songs back to the laptop???

Second frustation, then trying to get onto the iTunes Music store but now need to download v7.5 it seems, okay set it running but wifey wife turns off the wireless half way through. No problems just turn it back on and start again/pick up from where you left off right? WRONG, it seems the Apple web site seems to think I've downloaded all 7.5 so just keeps thanking me for doing so every time I try to re-download.

Friggin Apple, now stuck with an iTunes application that won't reconise the Ipod (and tries to delete it all the time), can't download anything from the music store and their 'online help' is rubbish.....

Wonder how many other poor users 'slip through the cracks of happiness' with Apple.

Cheers,

Nah, can't find it, just drives me back to the original site.

This is so stupid, surely if you lose your data on the PC you should be able to re-install songs from the Ipod. What a bloody stupid oversight...
Wish i'd brought a Walkman now frown

I have used copypod, now called CopyTrans.

iPod transfers have always officially been one-way - the record companies wouldn't sit idly by and let it be both ways - way too easy for huge record collections to be shared....

Word of caution, in the future, might be worth backing up your PC wink

You're using a Microsoft Windows PC, and complaining that Apple software isn't good enough for you?

Boo hoo. Stick to ing Microsoft Media Player then, or all the millions of music management programs available for Windows. What's the big deal? Use what you're happy with. If you don't like Apple, then don't bloody well use it.

And if you're moaning that you want an Apple iPod but don't want to deal with Apple software because 'it sucks' then suck it down yourself and get a Creative MP3 player instead. If you hate Apple so much, there are plenty of alternatives.

I hear the Creative Zen Vision M is a decent alternative to Apple kit for Windows users.

Hell, I didn't just rant randomly, I've given the guy an alternative option for hardware that is probably a better bet for his requirements. If Apple 'sucks' so much then the Creative Zen players are a good recommendation, no?

If Apple is saying thanks for downloading your program it seems as though it recognises you, just a thought but can't you clear out your cookies so that it doesn't recognise you and start your program download again, or run ccleaner to clear cookies and registy.

Hey, I brought the gadget due to the hype (there's a lot right) but didn't see the software coming! As I said, wish I'd brought a Walkman now cos I enjoy Sony products....

Heh, that's a whole different can of worms... I've been burned so badly by Sony kit in the past that it's the only brand of computer / PDA gear that I actively advise people against smile Their little laptops looked so cool and were such nice designs, but all the proprietary hardware and drivers made the things almost unusable. I had one of the Picturebooks (lovely little computer) that only ran XP version 1... updating to SP2 (which you needed to for security) broke all the Sony device drivers... back in the Palm days I had the Clié Sony version which had double the screen resolution - unfortunately it was done via proprietary hacks and you had to specifically check for the Sony device in your code and handle it completely differently to Palm high-res screens... and I won't tell you how much time I wasted trying to get a stable install of Linux on the Picturebook when I realised that the only version of XP it supported was full of unpatchable vulnerabilities.... never got Linux working properly on the C1MGP frown

OK now that's off my chest wink I'll say one thing. If you think Apple is bad when it comes to preventing file sharing etc. / multiple libraries per iPod, you'll be unpleasantly surprised with Sony's proprietary lockdowns. I remember the iPod-killer player that Sony released that wouldn't play MP3 files, you had to transcode your *entire* library into Sony-proprietary ATRAC format rolleyes Sony eventually caved in under the outcry, but you have to remember that Sony makes more money from their media content division than their computer division. So the computer division are the bitches, and they will be locked down to prevent 'abuse'. Sony are evil.

hehe

There hasn't been enforced DRM in SonicStage for a few years, and that is retrofitable too to your library smile

It is still one of the worst pieces of software I have ever come across.
