Its brand new, one of those cheapy 4GB MP3 jobs from Tescos. Plugged in, filled with music, un plugged. Turned on, light comes on, then nothing.

If I plug it into the pc, it lights up, so its 'physically' connected, but doesnt spring up in my computer...

Any ideas?

I cant format it, see, cos it wont connect....

Stupid thing.

If you're on xp then it might be a drive letter allocation issue. Right click on "my computer" (either on your desktop or in the start menu) and select "manage"
Select "disk management" from the storage section and see if your usb drive is listed. If it is right click on the little icon and select "Change drive letter and paths" - pick a letter not being used by any other drive (I tend to stick with "X" for my usb stick) and ignore the warning.
Hopefully you will now be able to use your usb device.

It was fubared. Took it back, they didnt have any in stock to reolace it with. So swapped it with an older model that was discontinued - got it back home, its rubbish. USB 1! Took an absolute age to transfer files.
Its going back tomorrow. Serves me right for buying cheap junk from Tesco's.
