sorry to ask everybody this, but does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my internet on my friends laptop.
I;ve connected him to my wireless box and its shows a good connection. Only thing is he can't view any webpages in mozilla or internet explorer. I am connected to the same box but mine works fine.
Also, he has this same problem on any internet connection whether wired or wireless. Its as if once connected, there is something stopping any data being transmitted in the activity (packets).
thanx in advance.

Sounds like DNS.
Get him to put this in the address bar
http://195.225.218.139/
If it displays anything he's probably got a manually assigned DNS server address on his network connection(s)

I just had PetrolHeads display when I put that in...and I always get "cannot clear DNS cache" when I repair after my wireless dropping off. How do I fix this?Get him to put this in the address bar

Try restarting the DNS Client service through services.msc
or
from command line:
net stop "DNS Client"
net start "DNS Client"
Elaborating on this.. an instruction guide:
Method 1:
Goto start -> Run
type in services.msc hit enter
Find the DNS Client in the right hand side section.
Right click on it and click stop
wait for a couple o seconds.
Right click on it and click Start
Method 2:
Goto start -> Run
type in cmd hit enter
in the command window that comes up type in net stop "DNS Client"
then net start "DNS Client"
Or just give it the good old fashioned three finger salute and reboot

Bummer.
Hasn't worked, but what I noticed at the bottom of the internet explorer webpage is that its trying to open http://404dnspage.com/... but somethings stopping it so it keeps switching between that and something else very quickly. I think theres some nutty spyware on the laptop.

Done the adware and virus checks but still not rectified the problem.
When I try to load a page now I can see it trying to load this message at the bottom of internet explorer
'opening page res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.thm...'
Already tried the DNS thing mentioned above too.
