Hi guys,

My home page on the lap top is set to an internal company web addrees so unless I log into VPN when I open Internet explorer I normaly get the usual page cannot be found. which is fine thats how it should be

but now whenever I start IE or type in an inccorrect adress instead of getting the page cannot be found one I get a few web pages for emoticons and sites selling pills.

so there is some kind of malware/spyware whatever gotton itself on here. I have just tried downloading spyware search and destroy but for some reason could not get it to work. is there a special version for lap tops?

anyone know how to get rid of this thing that has attached itself.

cheers in advance

Probably going to have to do just that but as I work away from the office its always extremely inconveinient.
I would have to ship it off to them. then wait till they have sorted it and then hang around all day waiting for it to be delivered.
As its working perfectly apart from this page popping up I just wondered if there was something I could try first.

Hmm didnt think about admin rights not very computer savy as you have probably sussed by now. Never had any problems before loading and running programs. as part of teh job I have to constantly load sofware onto it so dont think I am too restricted on it.

I can thoroughly recommend spybot search and destroy and adaware, both can be had from www.download.com. Be aware, spybot can take an age to start, on my P4 3Ghz it takes about a minute, on my kids old P3 800's it takes about 3 minutes plus. And thats the time it takes from when you click the icon to it actually appearing on the screen. The only clue its doing anything is if you do CTL-ALT-DEL then look at processes and theres S&D chugging away at 98% of the CPU.

But once its loaded its fantastic, you may be surprised just how much crap it finds !
