I think the biggest threat to motoring is the push by Microsoft to get Windows into cars to control onboard entertainment and at some point engineering management (engines, abs, suspension etc). Just imagine the fun hackers can have then with some friendly and not so friendly viruses. Fords in the US are already advertising their use of Windows, what's happening in Europe?
