I have BT broadband and I was complaining to a friend how slow it was. He emailed me a speedtest which tells me that my PC downloads at 2953 Kb/s and uploads at 376 Kb/s. Trouble is, being pretty computer illiterate, I have no idea if thats any good or not! Can anyone advise?

Unless you live close to the exchange you are unlikely to get 8meg although your speed does seem very low. Im having a little debate with my provider right now, I live close to the exchange and for the last 2 years have had 8.1meg as shown by the router connection status page. Over the last 2 weeks I have had the service reset itself every 90 seconds for several days, then switch down to 7.7 meg where it stopped resetting and worked ok for a few days. I've been checking every day and its slower each day, today its down to 3.9meg ! Im going to try another router to see if it picks up but otherwise it seems my only option is to change provider, I'm not paying the £150 they want to come out and check the line.

no-one has 8 MB, you only have UPTO 8 mb, think the theoretical max is 7.1 mb in any case.

Used to be with eclipse and got told that 50kbps was upto 8 mb...
