Hmmm,

Multiple Backups on different disks, Tick.

UPS on everything, Tick.

Test Restore backup, Tick.

Offsite Backup........ Never quite cracked that one.

I already have VPN's setup to various other locations and have okish broadband connections out of here and into other sites. So I suspect I ought to either purchase a second NAS and do initial backup here, then install it in one of the other locations and do incremental backups (Superduper) over the VPN, but I'm not sure what the performance will be like.

Or I simply ought to purchase a couple of cheap USB portable drives and rotate them offsite.

Before Time Machine came along I had a reasonable record of backing up, did periodic backups of music and podcasts and photo backups after every time I added new ones. Would backup to three different drives, a portable Firewire drive, a flash drive and onto the spare space on my iPod. My documents/work got uploaded to .Mac also for extra safety also.

Now TM is here I just let that do its thing everyday onto a nice spacious desktop drive and do the above process every few weeks or so to back that up.

Not being rude Fish
You are though, very.
'Very rude' ??? Don't be so stupid. There was nothing insulting about my post, if you think I was being excessively rude then you're either hypersentitive or the point whooshed straight over your head.

I'm interested in his reply because power backup will kill you dead regardless of separation of disk boxes - if the outbuilding and the main building both run off the same power supply, and that spikes or browns out in the middle of a backup... all your disks could be lost, including the backup. That *would* be game over, and as Fish says, he can't afford to lose anything, which explains his rather extreme setup.

Vista ultimate backs up to my NAS daily.

I know the word Vista puts a chill into people's hearts, but it seems to work and I can restore from backup.
