OK, so i'm confused. Our DNS server is down at the moment, and NO websites are currently working. Google, BBC etc are all failing. However, PH is working!

How and why?

Think of PH as treacle. It takes a long time to get out of the tin, but then you can't shake it off...

Nope - it let me browse, and post this thread all whilst other sites & disgruntled staff where not working.

its because you are never away from the site for more than 10 minutes and thats how long the dns cache on your PC lasts

As you said, DNS is down.. but you'll already have a cached DNS result for PH, so it'll keep working for the TTL (time to live) of the record and then die..

so probably overnight it will stop working.. but you'll be at home then anyway..

You could always just use another DNS server

I was taking the piss too.. in the spirit of things... giving a totally useful answer which he'll obviously ignore.. that's the joke
