ipod search function help

Don't know if this is possible with the search function, although I don't see why it can't do it.

When I do a search on the ipod (160gb classic) itself it will not recognise artists from a "various artists/compilation" album. However if searching for the song title it will find a song from a compilation/various artists album.

Do I need to set something up in the menus or is it just an annoying flaw in the operating system?

This is also not a problem in iTunes itself, which makes it even more frustrating.

It could be as you describe, but it may also be an mp3 tags issue. Might be worth checking the tags with a dedicated tag editor app, or converting the song's tags to v2.4 (not that I've bothered to research the different versions to see what's what), and see if that fixes the problem.
