Can anyone recommend any full HD encryption software - and no its not for porno

It needs to be approved by all the relevant UK bodies - if there are any.

Thanks

A previous employer used BeCrypt software for encrypting the HDs of laptops with restricted data on.

I can't say much about its effectiveness at keeping data secure (although I believe it has some sort of accreditation), but it was fairly inobtrusive to use every day.

I have my work laptop supplied with HD encryption on it and all I can say is to be VERY VERY careful. Pretty much all of the products on the market do exactly what they say on the tin, but remember the disk is encrypted and if there is any fault you may end up with a stuffed computer.

Its little things like if Windows goes screwy typically you need to just use the CD/DVD to run the rescue process (the recommended way to resolve Vista for example). You often cannot do this as you need to boot up the disk encryption software first to allow you to actually access the disk in the first place. There are often ways around this, but they are by no means perfect.

If the HD goes or fails then there is often nothing at all you can do. Since you cannot boot the OS or the disk encryption software there is no way to get back to the data. Even a data recovery company will struggle and you might find its just lost! So take backups regularly and make sure you are on top of everything - like reading the installation manual and understanding the implications (they differ from product to product).

Finally, you mentioned about standards - which standards? If its MOD stuff then you will need to get their recommended solution which is not available on the open market. However, if there is a different standard then some do and some dont. Which ones?

We used this when I worked for a well known F1 team smile

Worked very well...but be aware, you forget your password you ARE stuffed. You can transfer the key and the RAW file (which are both needed) from Computer to Computer
