Is it just me - because everytime i run an AV or spyware scan after its finished my PC freezes? - this has happened from day 1 for the last 6 yrs - so i assume it's a characteristic and not a fault?
it's just youmaybe you are onr of these guys who run a pc on minimum ram, what was it 128 or 256 mb ram for XP ?
2GB is great for XP and the minimum for vista
friend of a friend has 256 mb laptop that starts up, she goes and gets a cup of tea sorted as it will take 15 mins to boot, managed to get it down to about 5 mins by:-
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Window Components > uncheck 'Indexing services' > next. This is a huge resource drain and only needed on networked machines sharing hundreds of files. XP runs scores of 'services', most of which are not needed as above. Start > Run > type 'services.msc' > OK and set the services in the table below to 'manual', not 'automatic' (double click the service name) (windows will now start the service if it really IS needed when a program YOU launch asks for it, and NOT run it at start up just in case...)
