Yes, I did get CPS for version 7 a few years ago and still use the software.

Questions:
  1. What environment are you trying to install it on?
  2. What version of TestDirector are you trying to install?
TD is now called Quality Centre and Hewlett Packard took over Mercury International last year. Anything earlier than version 9.0 is no longer supported.

I'll have a look when I get to work (Monday) as my manuals at home are somewhat out of date.

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? It doesn't like whatever version it is. Let me know and I will ask our QA manager what you need to do! We use it, and hate it!

I know that TestDirector 7.6 SP4 does not work with IE 7 because I can replicate that exact error. You either need to use IE 6 or upgrade to Quality Center (I use 9.0) which does work with IE 7.

  • Why do you hate it?
  • What are you using it for?
  • Have you been trained to use it? A lot of companies expect their staff to know how to use various software products and wonder why things don't work.

Using TD 9 with IE7 here. It's the only thing I need to use IE for, everything else I use firefox.

We use it because there's not a lot else out there that allows us to build up test plans and then execute them, and also record, assign and manage bugs in a single package. I don't use it personally, but the QA team have been trained. We hate it because it is clunky and we bought it when we had a smaller team, and now we need more concurrent licences they won't sell us any unless we buy a massive upgrade which we're not prepared to do. We're using Adminitrack at the moment for bug tracking as it lets us give clients access to their own bug list, but it can't do the test plan management unfortunately. To be honest, we object to the inflexible licence model more than the software itself.

Glad to hear you sorted it. Off topic a bit, but does anyone use Sitescope and had it when it was developed by Freshwater Software. Since HP have taken it over it's the most bloated Java piece of sh$t. The old interface was great, is still supposed to work but is as buggy as hell on my install. Big company takes over - product goes to sh$t frown
