I've found the answer!!!!!

I've downloaded a program called the inquisitor from http://www.inquisitorx.com/safari/index_en.php

Once installed and safari is running, click on safari in the tool bar, then preferences then there will be a magnifying glass on the right hand side of the preferences window, click on that and use the drop down menu in the middle to choose the search engine of your choice.

You can then type what you want in the search bar as normal, you can then either just press enter to search or use the new drop down list that appears to go directly to the links.

I've only just found this program tonight but if anyone finds anything better I'm all ears.

Add your own search provider to your copy of Internet Explorer by following these steps:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en...

Visit the desired search engine in another window or tab
Use the search engine to search for TEST (all capital letters)
Paste the URL of the Search results page
URL:
Specify a name for the search provider
Name:

View XML
If your search provider doesn’t install correctly, click here to select another character encoding.

goto the site you want to have as homepage

tools, options, use current site as homepage

no need to pratt around with the registry

probably something similar in IE, but using FF
Did you read the whole thread? The OP wants to use the search box in google toolbar, not the default homepage. Even if you set google.co.uk as home page, it still uses google.com in the toolbar until you change some settings.

Siddi's post above is the easiest solution so far.
I can't see where google toolbar is mentioned. I assumed OP was referring to the search box to the right of the address:

Using regedit start-run-regedit
Navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\
Search the key using find (CTRL+F) and look for google.com

Replace the suffix with .co.uk and it should then use the google UK search from the small window in the top of IE7

It might be easier to just search for this key though:
Name: URL type: REG_SZ data: h ttp://www.google.com/search?q={searchTerms}&rls=com.microsoft:{language}:{referrer:source?}&ie={inputEncoding}&oe={outputEncoding}&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGIH

I've had to put a space between the h & the ttp in the url, because the forum truncates it.

Hope this helps?

From the whole thread, this help from philthy seems to be the most useful. All up and running for me from this. Thanks!

sorry but:

1. the OP never said they had a google toolbar
2. The OP has never said what browser they are running
3. The OP post did say "I've got the search provider option in the toolbar" Which infers IE8. (but hey I don't currently use any other broswer than IE8 so it could infer other browsers) IF it is IE8 , then follow instructions here http://www.ieaddons.com/en/createsearch.aspx

The OP also asked this question 18 months ago, I think they've probably got it working now smile

For all of you, here is the answer, and it doesn't involve using nasty hacks like Inquisitor or Glims.

Use GlimmerBlocker and not only can you block those nasty ads, you can manipulate input and output to pages as well.

Once you have it installed, set up a personal filter as follows...

Under "Rule Type" enter:

Priority 3
Action: Modify request

Host: is
www.google.com

Path: Starts With
/search

Query: ignored

Under the "Request" tab enter the following javascript:

var s = gb.request.url;
s = s.replace("google.com", "google.co.uk")
gb.request.url = s;

Save the rule and you're done.

This will modify all requests to google.com/search to go to google.co.uk instead. It will work for any traffic that passes through GlimmerBlocker so will work for browsers other than Safari too.

Can't remember - don't have it now. It was a Chrome-alike theme of some kind.

HERE is how I did it, and it works...
I am on Windows XP IE version 8.

Click on the down arrow on the Google Toolbar.
Click "Manage Search Providers"
At the bottom of the page click "Find more search providers"
At the bottom of the next page click "Create your own Search Provider"
Now you can copy and paste any URL you like in including the reference to UK (it must also reference the search string "TEST"

To do this for google, paste the following:
http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q...

You need to copy the whole of that URL, and not just the bit this forum displays.

Call it what you like in Name (e.g. Google UK Default)
and click "Install Search Provider"

You can then go into Manage Search Providers, move it up the list and set as default search provider, etc.

Hope this helps.

I havent been coming in to read "computing" for long so I love these old threads being ressurected

Never realised there were so many techy ways to do this stuff

All I did, soon after installing Firefox was open up google.co.uk and bookmark it

Now each time I want to Google I open bookmarks and its there at the top of the list

Now of course dammit, I'm going to have to do something more sexy...

This is for the search box in the top right hand side!

For fireox -https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/135...

For Internet explorer -http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en...
Use the Yellow create your own box on the right

Done!
