Arising from the Google Chrome thread, it seems that some people use some shortcuts a lot, and find them useful, and others don't know they are there.

So, here's a Wiki for you to note your most useful (or favourite) shortcuts. For each one, please note what software it works in (IE, Word, FF etc), and what it does.

I'm trying to group by software, but do re-arrange as you see fit.

Windows Generally

- WIN + L locks the machine
- WIN + E opens Windows Explorer
- WIN + R opens the Run dialog box
- WIN + D shows the Desktop
- WIN + M minimises all open windows
- WIN + Pause/Break shows System Properties
- Hold CTRL down to move around in a document with the cursor jumping word-by-word (rather than character-by-character)
- CTRL + F opens "Find"
- CTRL + W closes the currently active window
- ALT + F4 closes the currently active window
- ALT + TAB moves between applications
- CTRL + Tab moves between windows within an application
- CTRL + LShift + Esc opens the Task Manager
- ALT + PrtScr - Captures current window to clipboard
- PrtScr - Captures entire screen to clipboard

Tab - Move focus on to next box/button/whatever
Shift-Tab - Move focus back to previous box/button/whatever


Firefox Browser

- CTRL + T opens a new tab
- CTRL + SHIFT + T reopens the last closed tab
- CTRL + W closes the currently active tab
- CTRL + R refreshes the window (form field value persist)
- CTRL + SHIFT + R hard refreshes the window (ignores local cache and resets forms)

Internet explorer (some 7 only)

- CTRL + T opens a new tab
- CTRL + N opens a new window
- CTRL + W closes the currently active tab
- CTRL + E focuses on the search engine box
- CTRL + H opens the history
- ALT + Home (on keyboard) opens homepage(s)
- ALT + left arrow goes back in internet history
- ALT + right arrow goes forward in internet history
- F6 tabs through frames and the address bar
- F5 refreshes the window (form field value persist)
- CTRL + R refreshes the window
- CTRL + ALT + click refresh button hard refreshes the window


Most Windows apps, not just excel and word use cut and paste buttons smile

- CTRL + C = copy
- CTRL + X = cut
- CTRL + V = paste
- CTRL + P = print (which is why past is CTRL +V).
- CTRL + Home = takes you to the very beginning of a document
- CTRL + End = takes you to the very end of a document
- CTRL + Page Up = takes you to the next physical page break up
- CTRL + Page Down = takes you to the next physical page break down
