The extension of the Chrome browser into an ultra lightweight network computing platform essentially.

So applications in the cloud, hosted by Google, mail, docs etc and a boot wrapper to Chrome with the eagerly awaited add in engine.

All running on Netbooks.

The realisation of the idea that Linus Torsvalds started with the Crusoe chip essentially but done at a commodotised hardware level and the cleverness in the software.

How long will it be before the Google halo slips? Do Google have more fanbois than Apple?

I realised it is aimed at netbooks but surely we could fire it up on a desktop if we just wanted to have a play?

I haven't heard about this, however my netbook hates XP and I'm sure it will love the Chrome OS...

I'm hoping there will be a virtual appliance fairly soon.

There's a .deb package that was released and then taken down again pretty quickly.

I've got an old desktop that I'll install it on to have a play.

If this article in The Register article is correct I don't think so!

I see this being a huge failure.

Who the hell is going to produce the drivers?

Pistonheads running on chrome OS

Yes I did cheat, it's actually running in a VM, It's not ready for real use yet, and from what I've seen I'm not sure I'll ever be using it.

It's just a web browser, admittedly I only played with it for 5 mins, but I don't see the point of it over a PC running chrome or another browser, it's too limiting.
For example I wanted to screen shot that image in chrome, but if I had I would have to upload it to somewhere like phonenix to crop it or alter it in any way. Much quicker to use a native app.

Tried running in virtualbox. Not having any of it.
I don't think it will take off anyway.

Reminds me of when I was about 10 and my parents bought a Mac LC.. My first thoughts were 'OK what can I do on this that is interesting and does not involve playing games.... hmmm, nothing!'

Google reach 3 in 4 internet users with their ads. I find that astonishing.

I'm so pissed i didn't invest in them when they went public. I had 18K at the time but due to miss-communication with my bank (AKA treating me like a child and saying "You can't remove the money" when they actually meant "You will lose your interest if you do") I didn't and I missed the boat.

Where? I googled for it, and no download link. Only press releases from July. Anyone got a .torrent perhaps?
