Can anyone comment on it's capability as a phone as this is the one real bugbear for me on the iphone, ie poor signal strength, having to switch off 3g to get better signal, dropped calls, straight to answerphone etc etc

So far I've made a few calls with mine and theyve been fine. Touch buttons are large enough not to mash them when inputting numbers.

Anyone know when Vodafone are going to be getting it in? They're useless for pre-release information!

My signal at home is pretty poor but I can make and receive calls without any trouble at all.

Just threatened T-mobile with leaving.
Said the can't match the Voda deal i posted earlier.
They won't be doing any 12month deals on the Desire - supposedly.
Won't do any cashback either - again supposedly.
Best Deal they could offer.
18months 1200 mins anytime any network 500 texts unlimited internet & a free phone for £35 a month.
I was just offered this morning the phone for £35 with 900 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £35 a month. I wanted it for £20 a month with the phone for £20 like Voda are offering on an online deal through a third-party and they said no so I said I would be looking at moving to another carrier.

One thing I did not realise is this would have been an early upgrade...my actual contract does not expire until June so I am thinking I may hang fire until I have more power to demand a better deal. At the moment if they say no I'm still stuck in my contract so they have the upper hand.

If anyone is interested, I've been given a rough date of the week of the 10th April.

That sounds a good deal, might have to switch over to Vodaphone next month.

The only thing that bothers me about these 24 month deals is waiting 2 years for an upgrade, is this the case or can you get an earlier upgrade?

Seeing as she is far too busy fiddling to reply, it was Bluewater, but the downstairs one, the upstairs one wouldn't sell her one until tomorrow.

Right, found the first issue with this phone - its music player.

The functionality of the search function is great, but there's no EQ and the volume isnt loud enough through headphones. I've got it turned up to max and its only moderately loud so its a thumbs down as media centre.
I dont suppose you'd care to answer my earlier question? Whether it'll do gapless MP3 playback? I suspect not, but I need it confirming, but nobody else but me seems to care about this. frown

On your points, which headphones are you using? Surprised its not loud enough, but the lack of EQ doesn't bother me.

Thanks for that.

Probably seems stupid to most, but I'll be giving these a wide berth until that is sorted out - I did so much work sorting out tags and album art on my MP3 collection on my PC that I have no motivation at all to sit and merge hundreds of MP3s so they work properly on this.

My old Sony MP3 player did this as well - most annoying. It seems hardly anything plays MP3s gaplessly frown

I'm due an upgrade on Orange. Went in my local CPW and they had three Desires delivered today but they cant do a deal anything like T Mobile. Orange internet fair usage policy is 500mb whereas T Mobiles is 3gb. So Ive given notice with Orange and done an online order with T Mobile tonight, although they dont have any in stock.
Indeed, I had a look at Orange tonight so that tomorrow if T-Mobile say that it isnt possible etc I could do the "Oh but Orange is offering this..."

I have decided that all this would achieve is the T-Mobile agent laughing at me and telling me to go waste my money.
Talking to the guy at Orange yesterday when I called to cancel my contract, they are due to launch a load of new tariffs with increased internet use at the same time as they launch the Desire and X10 apparently.

T-Mobile allow you to upgrade 1 month early on a 12 month contract, 2 months early on an 18 month and 3 months early on a 24 month so it is effectivly 21 Months.

Only problem is that if you take the early upgrade option they can hold you over the barrel a lot more and will not offer you anything near the deals that they would offer you if you were actually out of contract as they know that either way they still have you for x amount of months. Its only if you decided to then wait the extra months that they would be all over you with deals.

I early upgraded 2 years ago because the tarrifs that were availible then were a lot cheaper than what I was on, this year I am going to hold on until June as although the tarrifs are a little bit cheaper not cheap enough to take a hit on my bargaining position as I know that if I wait until June they will be bending me over the table to try and give me a deal.

Another one is to go to Carphone Warehouse or Phones 4 U a few months before your contract ends and see if they will buy you out. The phone carriers hate this.

Gapless playback is a bummer, very irritating. A lot of people don't see why this is an issue; however, I can't see why they can't see that this is an issue for some - it's a simple, valid request. The iPhone does it, I'm surprised there isn't an app on the Android Market for it already.
