Was hoping to upgrade my handset with vodafone to this but looking at the tariffs they only give you a paltry web data allowance of 500mb whereas the iphone is 1gb and there does not appear to be an option to increase this even by paying. Was looking at tmbile but reception is really poor where I live and work. Looks like I'll have to wait for the new iphone when it eventually comes out. I don't particularly want an iphone at the minute due to the amount of dropped calls, poor reception and woeful battery. Hmmmm
Have you called them? I had the upgrade sales team call me a while ago and they stated the allowance was 1Gb even though the website stated 500Meg. I'll be going Legend on Vfone unless Apple announce anything soon.

Placed an order Yesterday for a Desire via Mobiles.co.uk

Ordered the Desire.
Said on the website they had them in stock & if the order was placed before 4pm i'd get it next day.
I got emails confirming order & that it'd been accepted by Vodafone.
However i did'nt get a despatch email which they said i would.
I'll be seriously fked off if they've taken my order whilst not having stock, it's just not cricket!

The 500meg web limit on Vodafone, how likely would the average user be to go over that in a month?

Apparently it's quite easy to do. Especially with HTC Sense, updates / feeds / emails are constantly coming down. Any Google maps usage also uses data. A colleague got a Hero last year and they set his contract up wrong so that he wasn't on the unlimited data plan he was supposed to be on. In one month, without much web browsing, he racked up over 1GB of usage.

Slight aside, last time I checked (last year), Vodafone have a limit of around 20-25MB on any single download file. Even the guys in the shop didn't know about this until they tried to download a podcast over air, which they couldn't but I could on O2.

Do T-mobile have unlimited usage for it?

Cant see it on thier website. Plus coverage for T-mobile is poor where we live.

Be interesting to see what deals O2 will offer with it when they release it.

My T-mobile contract is unlimited 3G data free with my contract. This was when I got my G1 15 months ago though so things may have changed.

I get a good deal at the moment: Flext45 (£220-worth of usage split however I want between texts and calls) and the aforementioned unlimted 3G on a friends and family contract for £20 a month.

I have had a couple of HTC's in the past. Had nothing but grief from them, slow, kept crashing, that was without any apps installed. Had them changed a few times. I certainly wont have another HTC. I hope they have sorted their softwate out...

I can't fault the G2's operation and I'm a difficult to please when it comes to gadgets! The only thing I'd like is gapless audio playback as mentioned previously.

Just spoke to Mobiles.co.uk

Who i ordered the handset from yesterday.
Their website said they had them in stock, which, was a complete lie.
The operator i spoke to said they were supposed to be in stock last Friday but still hav'nt arrived yet.
He also said i might not even get mine as people have pre-ordered them before they came in.
I asked why they said on their site they were in stock when in fact they were'nt.
He said it's probably due to a technical fault.
Sound more like they just wanted to get a load of orders in!

How does this relate to HTC's Android phones?

I just managed to walk in the Carphone Warehouse and buy one bounce

Vodafone
£30 a month
24 month contract
300 minutes
Unlimited Text
Unlimited Web
and got £104 for my old phone.

I am really really happy but have a very jealous husband biggrin

Just setting it all up now.
Ummm..yeah I kinda hate you right now.

What CPW was this by the way?
Seeing as she is far too busy fiddling to reply, it was Bluewater, but the downstairs one, the upstairs one wouldn't sell her one until tomorrow.
T-mobile,

300mins, unlimited txts, unlimited web (3GB not VF's paltry 500mb)
£15/month 24months £129 for phone.

30*24 = £720

15*24 = £360

360+129 = £489 over 2 years

That's sort of my point... comparing old phones on an unknown OS isn't really a fair comparison, I've had some shocking handsets from most manufacturers in the past... I've had 3 HTC Android phones now (G1, Hero and Nexus One) and ALL were perfectly acceptable, the Nexus is excellent so Bobs comment is irrelevant.

I'm curious about that too.

The difference is obviously just the software used to play it, which suggests the Desire uses a different software for MP3 playback as the NX1.

Saying that, I'd want the native player to be capable of gapless or it just feels like a bodge (like my old WM devices).

Well I hope that my Tmobile G2 (HTC Hero) improves when Android 2.1 is finally released as I am becoming increasingly frustrated with it trying to use it as a phone or to txt. I'm finding it almost impossible to answer the phone as the it seems to freeze when I try to answer it, and by the time it responds it has gone to voice mail. I also find the keyboard frustratingly small, and I don't have big fingers!

Browsing is pretty good, and I'm very impressed with the Last.fm app streaming over 3G (as long as there is a decent signal).

What size is the Desire screen?

If you get your T-Mobile contract from T-Mobile then fair usage policy for Android phones is 3Gb (1Gb for all other phones).

If you get your T-Mobile contract from Carphone Warehouse or similar it will only have a 1Gb fair usage policy.

I was inches away from getting my hands on an HTC Desire on T-Mobile in Carphone Warehouse today. Contract wasn't bad at £30pm, free phone, 500 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited (1Gb) data, 24 month contract.

But the 24 month contract and 1 Gb fair usage really put me off. I'd been jumping through hoops to get my hands on the Desire too. Also they didn't have any cooling off period.

Decided to just stick it out and wait for T-Mobile to sort out their "technical problem" so I can get the 18 month contract at £30 a month, £60 for the phone, 500 minutes, 600 texts, unlimited (3Gb) data, and one of their bundles.

I'm very tempted with one of these, but just looked to see how much they cost!

I'm knocking my iPhone contract down to £15 a month, (waiting for new version)

and just found out these desires cost MORE than an iPhone! £439 + the cost of a 16gb chip, Vs. the £449 for the iPhone

Ouch!

Yes they are definitely offering the best deals, unfortunately T-Mobile doesn't really work around here. Neither does Orange (as I found out after buying a Hero). I would go back to O2, but while my N95 got great signal at home, when I was in London I would constantly get Network Busy messages when trying to make calls.

Mobile operators suck frown

Also, I am yet to go over 500Mb despite push email, facebook and twitter feeds, web browsing, google maps to find where I am going and navigate my way there, and a few other odds and ends. I seem to average about 200Mb. Then again, I have wireless at home and at the office.
