Funk can you let us in on the secret of how you got those totally non standard tariffs? Are your bills normally £100 a month and that is why they offered soo much?
I am currently looking for deals/tariffs for my partner and there is nothing even close to what you are quoting.

I negotiate hard.

The tariff for Mum was done in-store. The guy originally said it would be £36/mo but if she went on my account it would be £26. In the end, got it on her own (new) account for £26/mo, saving £10 a month. Because she came from Orange to T-M we're both getting a £25 high street voucher. Oh, and she has free T-M to T-M calls.

I'm a polite bd to deal with. I felt I'd failed when I didn't get a free screen protector and case thrown in too though.

I actually think her deal is even better than mine.

Here's the tariff she's on: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/htc-one... If you'd like, I can see whether the chap I dealt with at the Kingston branch can help, or persuade a colleague in your local branch to do the same deal... Also, if you do (and you're not on T-Mobile already), I'll give you my details as a referrer and we'll both get those £25 high street vouchers too.

I need to get a spare battery for my Desire Z as I'm off camping for a few days. Has anyone ever had a problem with the supposed higher capacity third party ebay batteries?

Have you looked at one of these instead? They're a bit more money but also a lot more flexible - I can charge two phones (granted the second port is only 500mah) and anything else that'll charge from a USB cable. Works out about 2-3 extra full charges of my Desire in practice:

Not sure if this has been covered in this thread elsewhere but:

When typing relatively quickly on my Desire S sometimes it will delete a letter as if it thinks it was an accident - eg. just trying to type 'the', if I quickly type the 't' then 'h' it will delete the 't'.

Is this a known Android fault/glitch/annoyance that I just can't get used to? Happy with the standard 'keyboard' for the most part, is the only cure a different keyboard app?

Cheers.
Anyone else experience this then?

BUMP!

So my Desire z went back to Expansys to be repaired and came back unrooted with an HTC 2.3.3 Sense ROM.

I can't seem to find a definitive guide to unrooting my phone again, and the stock rom is really bugging me laugh

Can anyone help?

Whoohoo, just joined the smartphone gang biggrin two years late but hey, most of you guys are probably revving up for a replacement.
Anyhow i got a second-hand HTC Desire HD, popped over here to see 350 pages of replies yikes

Now i've been clicking on random pages trying to find out about best SD micro card & no luck yet; so what's the best 32gb card for these phones sandisk class 10? or samsung or---.

I wouldn't bother spending the extra money on a class 10. A class 4 or even class 2 would do the job just fine. I remember reading something incredibly boring about it all. I've got a 32gb class 2 in my Acer tablet and it works perfectly fine.

unless you intend running a custom rom and apps2sd .... then the aster one would be better!

This is where i would be heading once i've had a play with the stock rom, also want one that writes quickly when taking photos.

I acknowledge that any class will work but for under 19 i can get a 32gb class 10 sandisk from amazon, which could be used in other devices if i needed that capacity.

I would agree with Polarbert. I ran my (non HD) Desire for about 18 months on a class 4 card with no performance issues across god knows how many custom ROMS.

Holy necro-posting, Batman! James_tigerwoods' recent Desire thread caused me to look back at this one and re-reading all the info I'd forgotten about rooting and flashing this phone.

Thought it might be cool to see what people are running a couple of years down the line; have you stuck with HTC? What are you using currently?

I ran a (rooted and ROM'd) HTC One X for two years before switching to the One M8 (which weirdly isn't rooted yet despite being about 9 months old). I also bought a Nexus 7 about a year ago (that IS rooted but still stock ROM) and have been eyeing the new HTC-built Nexus 9 although I have no real need to change, the 7 does me just fine.

The only other thing I've been thinking about is a Moto 360 as it's the most 'watch-like' of the smart watches I've seen to date.

HTC Sensation then after my wife had loads of trouble with a HTC One S I defected. Nexus 4.

Been on several custom ROM's, so much easier to root and flash than the HTC phones, remember having to do some antics with a piece of wire shorting between pins on the Sensation!

Back on Stock Lollipop at the moment though and liking it.

Sony next as I am drawn in by it being waterproof!

Pretty much standard HTC One (M7) here at the moment, had it since launch and it's been great up until recently when it developed the issue where plugging in headphones with inline controls forces it to skip tracks randomly or phone people (standard headphones that came with it included).

Not sure where to go next, I like the M8 but I might cling on to see what comes along to replace it rather than go with "old" tech.

I replaced mine with a Nexus 4 and I've just bought a Nexus 5, because, wrongly, I thought I'd broken the 4...

...my Desire lives on though, as a Squeezebox remote. biggrin

I'm running a Sony Z1 Compact these days. Faithful old Desire still lives though, it's currently tucked away in the 'man draw' in case I need a backup phone at any point.

I used my HTC Desire for another year beyond it's 2 year contract. It still sits on my shelf amongst the other mobile phones in my wee museum that includes a pager and some brick like phones. It did a short service as a Spotify streamer to my Hifi. Still works.

I went Samsung S3 afterwards and am about to get to the end of a 2 year contract. Very happy with it and am considering getting a sim only deal and keeping it at least another year despite a recently smashed screen.

Used mine as a baby monitor for a bit but it's sat in a drawer since. As Silver says, space is a real issue nowadays. It's not my backup phone anymore either - I went from the Desire to an S3, then on to a Z1. These days it feels obsolete.

I'll always remember the Desire though for taking on the dominant iPhone and (amongst the geeks) winning, and on a more mainstream level persuading less techy people that Android could be a real rival to iOS. In my (perhaps ignorant) mind there were two ground breaking smart phones - the original iPhone, and the Desire - but for different reasons.
