Currently on a G2 and have to say I've not encountered any of the issues others have mentioned about it in this thread. Am so impressed, I'm actually considering NOT getting the Desire when my contract comes up for renewal in early May - especially as the G2/Hero is getting 2.1 as well!

I have an HTC Hero (T Mob G2) on 24 months. 1200 mins, unlimited internet, £25. Should be £35, discounted for loyalty.

I like Android, but T Mobile coverage is crap.

Using it for the last few months to receive calls from customers and the number who get an "unavailable" message or ring-out while the phone is with me, with a good signal, is getting beyond a joke.

T Mobile want a list of 4 problem calls in one day, with location of caller, my location and time of day, in order to trace the problem. This, after much fobbing off.

How the hell do I do that..?

Right, just about to go to bed but think I've pretty much found my way around the phone now.

Being able to link facebook contacts with phonebook contacts is great, friendstream runs well although I only use FB anyway, the screen is amazing!

Only issue i'm having is with the Beebplayer as I'm finding that it wont actually stream anything (via wifi).

Thats crazy! I must say however that my Girlfriends Orange phone seems to do the same, it will be on with signal and it will just keep sending me to answerphone. Never had anyone complain about getting through to me before however.

Can anyone who has one tell me whether it can play mp3s gaplessly (those who have ever listened to electronica will know what I mean) - by all accounts earlier android releases could not do this. If it can't then I think I'd hang fire, can't be bothered to merge mp3s just for that.

Also I'll probably hang fire until tvcatchup works on android. Other than that I'm very tempted as my iPhone 3g feels like a slug these days.

Then again I might wait and see what the samsung galaxy s is like.

I found a good deal with Vodafone last night.
12month contract
Phone Free
£90 Cashback
Register with Quidco & then do the deal through their site & you get a further £50 cashback.
900 anytime any network minutes
Unlimited texts
£5 for the unlimited internet package.
If i trade mine in with one of those recycling sites its £70 for a G1 i think.

Total works out @ £50 a month with the booster.

If you take into account all the cashbacks etc works out about..

Total contract cost over 12 months £600.
Total Cashback value £210
Effective monthly cost after taking cashback off £ £32.50p a month.
Less than what i'm paying now for more minutes, more texts a shorter contract & a better phone!

Is there a quick way to close apps from the front screen?

On a separate note I've got it tethered to my laptop and its very impressive. Much faster than the 3 dongle I have and signal is the same strength.

I've heard nothing of the technical faults. Anyone know what these are?

I've got 2 in front of me and have had no issues but it's early days.

David.

I think you need an app to close the apps, can't remember what it is called though and I haven't downloaded it yet.

How did you tether it to the laptop? I haven't looked into that yet with my Nexus One but it is something I would like to be able to do and couldn't see an easy way to make it work.

Right, found the first issue with this phone - its music player.

The functionality of the search function is great, but there's no EQ and the volume isnt loud enough through headphones. I've got it turned up to max and its only moderately loud so its a thumbs down as media centre.

Just threatened T-mobile with leaving.
Said the can't match the Voda deal i posted earlier.
They won't be doing any 12month deals on the Desire - supposedly.
Won't do any cashback either - again supposedly.
Best Deal they could offer.
18months 1200 mins anytime any network 500 texts unlimited internet & a free phone for £35 a month.

It was really easy actually. When I plugged the phone in via USB I selected "mount as external drive" then ran the setup file thats on the SD card.

Unplugged the phone and plugged in again, selected internet tethering (or something like that) when it popped up on the screen and it just worked.

Very impressive

Thanks, couldn't find a setup file on my SD card so a quick google and it seems I have to root the Nexus One to do it so presumably the Desire has an extra program as part of Sense.

There is a bit of should you / shouldn't with task killers on Android phones. If you're techy savvy enough then they're fine, but most often the apps that don't close when you exit them are designed to run in the background, and being too overzealous with closing apps also ends the background services. (Not all apps are coding this well of course)

I'm currently running an app called SystemPanel, but it's more for being nosey than ending anything.

So is that £35 per month for 24 months, with free phone?

No, I'm on a £20 a month tariff at the moment with no internet, so I'll be looking to change that, but it let me upgrade for free into another 18 month contract.
