My free bumper turned up this morning,

Quite impressively prompt for a free item!
That is a very impressive turn around time, did you order on the Friday?

Yes, Friday evening

The odd thing is, I haven't received a shipping confirmation! Just turned up out of the blue

Got my bumper today even though im not having any of the reception problems.

Has anyone got hold of a decent carbon fibre case for it yet?

Can i ask, for those of you that have got the iphone4 now:

1 - How are you finding it?
2 - What did you upgrade from / or have previously? and how does it compare?
3 - Any other comments on your experiences so far...

I've not owned an iphone before but have had other smartphones - currently a HTC Touch Pro 2. I've had enough of the slow glitchy windows OS and i'm not sure about whether the android OS in the HTC desire for example would be any better. The iphone 4 is the stand out upgrade, but having not had one before and with the additional cost of one, any advice or feedback would be great in deciding if its the right choice for me.

It's much better than the n97mini I had, the touch screen and interface is pretty cool, screen is amazing and the reception is ok, get the feeling a lot of low reception times are more to do with orange! It cold do with a "my st" folder tho. Not having flash is also a pain but otherwise for browsing the net it's pretty cool!

A mate rang me a few days ago on an iphone4 and there was an annoying beep every few seconds as if he was pressing the keypad. Think I will wait a while before I order mine

Brilliant, its like having the laptop with me constantly. Any argument can be settled (my favourite bit) by a quick google.

I came from a Nokia 6300 (frown), but I've had a HTC HD Mini and I just did not get on with it. I'm a IT bod, but found it too much work, where as the iPhone just works. I can't belive I've waited this long to get one.

I've had no yellow marks on the screen, and I'm able to hold my phone.

The only downside is battery. I'm used to the Nokia lasting a few days no problem, but then it is JUST a phone, not a computer. I sit at a desk all day, so I just charge it during the day.

I'm not sure the keypad even beeps if you use it during a call, but regardless, the screen looks itself when you put it to your ear to stop that, and automatically unlocks when you move it away.

Either that, or he had you on speaker phone and was playing Angry Birds while you spoke.

Not what I'd call the *best* reason to discount the phone smile

I bought the Griffin faux carbon case anyway the day after launch - I wanted a case, not because of reception issues. Like you say it's the best of a bad bunch.

I may get the bumper just as a spare.

I've upgraded from an original iPhone 8GB. Never bothered with the 3G or 3GS because they didn't seem much of an upgrade for the price.

I went for the 32GB version (thinking that it'll last me 3 years like the old one) but that's probably overkill; unless I start taking lots of HD movie footage, anyway... Oh well, I'm reasonably future-proofed.

What's better - well the reception is improved, both wi-fi and telephone (I previously had difficulty maintaining a wi-fi connection the other side of a 6ft chimney breast in my house, but now no problems at all); the 3G makes an enormous difference to data speeds out and about, and the GPS works perfectly, even picking up my movements around my garden when I tried it.

The screen is way better than the original too. I had given up using Safari to view full websites because I got fed up with having to zoom and scroll so much, but with the increased resolution they've become properly usable. The processor speed also helps since they're rendered as quickly as on a proper computer.

Apps load far more quickly, and the camera's much better (if actually a bit irritating because it lacks the simplicity of the old one, which just had a single button to take the photo). Not tried Facetime and I have no interest in doing so.

OS 4.0 isn't a major leap forward for me but overall, it's a nice incremental upgrade.

I see O2 are still saying it's for existing customers only - anyone any idea when they'll be opening it up?

Or is an alternative operator worth considering?
