Seems that new and shiny rules then Tony.
I'm in hehe

So, I take it there's no announcement from O2 as to when prices will be revealed? Time is ticking on!

I'd be surprised if they did that, however wouldn't put it past them.

Surely it would actively discourage sales if that's what happened?

Word on the street is that O2 et al (I heard it from O2) are not going to be pre-order the iPhone 4. They're supposedly going to be allowing online ordering on the 24th June (release day).
Just read the tariff page again and it simply says this;

"How do I get one?
New customers can buy one from any O2 shop, online, Apple Store, The Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U from 24 June onwards"

Which kind of backs up what you say.

Can't work out if o2 prices are horrid or not.
Nor me - I remember thinking prices for orange seemed much more appealing as an outright cost. Time to do some comparisons.

Ok I've made a bit of an excel table comparing orange and O2. Yes I'm a geek.

Anyway, simply put; it's all over the place. 24 month, 16gb examples;

£30 tariff orange = 169, O2 = 179
£40 tariff orange = 89, O2 = 89

18 months;

£35 tariff orange = 229, O2 = 179 (massive difference!)
£40 tariff orange = 169, O2 = 119 (again, big difference)

Interestingly the lowest total cost on O2 is the £30 tariff with phone at £209. Total cost over 18months is £749.

So if I upgrade to 12m simplicity package @ £30 a month the phone with cost me £130 for a 32G.
But I will get 1200mins, unlimited texts, 750mb data.
The table is very bad, but simplicity is the price if you buy the phone elsewhere - from Apple for example. So it will cost you £499 or £599 for the phone plus £30/month for as long as you want (rather than being in a contract).

Tony,

The cheapest contract is actually the cheapest one over the period. But you get jack st thrown in.
Good point hehe

However it's 100 mins and unlimited texts - I probably use 100mins a month anyway, so that seems a good deal to me.

If another provider unable to help, sorry.

Annoyingly I reset my usage statistics last week in LeMans to see how much I used, so not sure what I do a month.
As far as usage statistics, if you are on O2 can you not log into My O2 , OK I mean *your* "My O2" and look back at usage on previous bills. I have been looking at mine right back to including the Crackberry which preceded the iPhone, ie to 2008ish.
Oh good stuff about Myo2 thanks I'll look at my usage then through that. Knowing more data-hungry services are coming, of course, but at least it gives me an idea smile
Where in MyO2 can you find your data usage? I'm struggling - I can see previous bills (lots of them) but they only give me the value of additional texts/minutes and also the total bill - no data download usage at all. I'm currently on the iPhone unlimited package so is it not recording it?!
Took me a while to find it.

OK Captain Hetherington I'll talk you down onto London Heathrow 27Left. hehe
This might be a bit funny as I'm working through a daft proxy but I'll get you to where I think you are.

Log onto O2
Click on My02
My Mobile bill Find out more
"At this point O2 goes doolally for me and says Sorry FiF we can't find a pay monthly account valid for the username etc." This is utter hollyhocks so I click on a link 'change mobile selection'_ Note this maybe bacause I'm working through a funny proxy server.

Anyway clicking on that link takes me to this page
https://myo2services.o2.co.uk/dashboard/selector
Where it says choose an account, a pull down box and a button 'Select account'
Pick your account in pull down box and click button.
It then pulls up the mobile number and you get a button view details.
I think that gets to where you are.

menu on LHS click as follows
My bill
Previous bills
Select date of bill from drop down selector in top middle of central frame,
Click Go
Hover your cursor over the text in the bill what I've used, should change to a hand, and so click the link.
You now get three links in the main frame, each one takes you to what you used on that bill.
Voice calls
Messages
UK browse and download < click this and....

Welcome to Thiefrow. Or have I dumped you short of the runway? In which case anyone in Hounslow, DUCK!!!!!

If you are on My O2 Beta just initiate a go around and I'll talk you through that.

Off at a tangent. Also spoken to O2.

They seemed adamant that ANYONE signing up now will be data capped, anyone who already has unlimited data won't be capped even when their contract runs out, it will remain as is until they cancel the contract, renew, upgrade or otherwise actively do something.

Adamant until I said what about this statement as on your website, ie offer to Oct 1 2010, and tariff information in your shop, , latter as advised by junior FiF who had just been looking at the tariff card in O2 shop. hehe it caused a mild cafuffle on the other end and a bit of rapid sales flannel.

Edited to make it a bit clearer what is a link or button and my ramblings.

So, interestingly, the "leaked" prices, or prices put up in error, were wrong then?

Is it my imagination or are the outets playing down the launch? None of them seem to have anything in their windows- I wonder if the lack of publicity is because they don't want a riot on their hands tomorrow morning?
I too thought that - haven't seen big shop displays or anything - I imagined "It's coming" but nope. Perhaps they know that they will sell no matter what on day 1, who knows.

I'm still in 2 minds about what to do actually - I'm away until tomorrow night anyway, but might take a wander to my local O2 shop on Friday and try and get one.

Yep - think I'll do similar. Turn up at lunch, if they have some then great, if not then I can wait a few days.

Totally off topic - this is by far the most popular thread I've ever started on PH. Is that good or not?! hehe

On a more seerious note, will I need to take ID to the o2 shop tomorrow?
Take it regardless. Better to have it and not need it...
You definitely do; you need two forms of ID, both with your address on it. (it says it on the O2 site somewhere I'm sure)
