So they've taken the worst part of the Iphone model range (well except the battery/camera) and made it significantly worse, well done Apple
Assuming you're iHolding it, the reception is supposedly very good.
The reception still doesn't match my 9700 playing with one but this isn't a real test just my personal experience of course.

I find it outstanding you can supposedly hold a phone wrongly.

They say it's endemic of all cell phones - covering the antenna area will cause a reduction of signal strength.
So, on that basis, it is only a software issue
Unless I'm reading the wrong articles, the issue is caused by the two antenna being bare metal and being easy to bridge (especially when held with sweaty conductive skin).

If the problem is solved by £25 of Bumper, why didn't they give the antennae a plastic clearcoat?

Can it really be so simple a problem?
Yes.

And the other models incidentally have always been rubbish. I have a Blackberry 9700 which is my main number and where all of my email and everything else comes into but I often carry around a 3GS for media/games/ipod functionality and at best it's significantly worse at maintaining it's signal/data than the 9700. Very often the Iphone just doesn't work and the 9700 sits there doing everything just fine.

On the flipside, I can't get my 9700 to work with my home wireless for love nor money; sure, it says it's connected but it doesn't actually work.

My iPhone and iPod touch worked just fine.

IIf so, it's stretching credulity that a company like Apple could put it to market.

Sounds like a setting issue.

I've been through the wringer on this, from farting about with authentication to assigning static IP addresses to titting about with service books. Nothing makes it work.

Netgear router, by any chance? DG834/GT?

Sounds EXACTLY like the problem I had.

NetGear WNR2000.

Got it free from Virgin Media.

Might bin it and get another Buffalo with Tomato firmware.

Still your average Apple fanboy can be secure in the knowledge that most of the time thieves are not really interested in breaking into their computer and stealing their Coldplay collection. It is fair more interesting to try and get into a Windows system which is more likely being used for something useful.

However it is based on findings from an independent security body - Secunia.

That's true and Secunia have been well known to stick the knife into MS's back plenty of times in the past.

I think the article has some truth but it's not quite what it seems, most of the Apple security holes don't equate to compromised machines so whilst there may be more they will probably be less serious.
