This is what I bought form Maplin:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=38343

I went round my house and plugged it in to all sorts of things. The results were interesting, the most interesting was that when my flat TV was on standby it uses almost no power at all. But, HMG, is always telling us all to turn things off at the wall and not leave them on standby, what I concluded there was no point doing that, unless you have a CRT TV.

Joined the group with my PS3 smile

Does anyone know if you can schedule the ps3 to auto power on at say, midnight and download and run a work unit and power off again? I know you can get it to power off when complete but its the powering on and starting i am not sure on. Would be good to get that running regularly off peak with no intervention from me - its a no brainer smile

Finally got a work unit smile - big one though - what's everyones iteration/sec rate (mine sometimes drops to 80 but keeps a 224 rate fairly consistently)? Left it running last night should be completed by the time I get home (progress is at 6200000/10000000 so just after half way) .

also just joined ph group. This is pretty clever stuff. Anyone know how i can get the moonlight themetune to download? It would make excellent alarm for early morning wakeups.

Thats me on. On the atlas or background, whatever you want to call it, are the bright lights the number of people using Folding home?

Does anyone still do this? I've just downloaded a monstrous 50 million WU for my graphics card to chew through which should only take 5.5 hours apparently.

Would my flatmates enormous tower mac-pro be good at this? I think it's quad core and is a beast.

He's away for 6 weeks and has left it on so he can access it from the states. Might as well use the beast for some good if it'll do it.

It will be good but by far the best processors for this are the GPUs found in graphics cards. I'm running a beta version of the software for nvidia cards and if you look at the PH leaderboard ( http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=... ) I've gone from bottom to 6th place in about 10 days with just 29 work units biggrin

GPUs are perfect for crunching raw data, they use this technology in the folding@home software ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/what_is_cuda_new.html ).

I've just set this up on a PC in my office that's on 24/7. I was feeling guilty about using this Core 2 Duo PC just to listen to the radio with, so this makes it all ok smile

What kind of speeds are people getting? Mine runs at 230-250 iter/sec on a Radeon 5770 GPU.

I don't have a iter/second scale on my GTX260, it uses ns/day. But I can do a 50,000,000 point work unit in 5hrs 40mins. So it does about 2450 of those points a second.

Anyone else struggle this last week to get it working? Had to use the -forcegpu atir700 to get it working again. Oh my runs at around 90-100 iterations if the graphical representation is on screen 200-220 when it isn't (and this is just a lowly ATI HD 5550)

Yep, downloaded the new one which is supposed to detect ATI hardware (but doesn't) and when I reinstalled
The older version it doesn't work any more. My video card is now bored frown
