How many mobile handsets have you owned?

I am due to replace my mobile handset soon as I am changing jobs. Up to now I have only had 3 handsets since I had my first mobile in 1994 which was a brick Nokia. That was replaced by another Nokia which again lasted years until it was replaced by my present Nokia 8210. When I leave my current company I am going to as if I can keep the handset as it still works fine, if a little worn! I will continue to use it!


That got me thinking... How many different handsets have you owned over the years?

Started off very slow, with years for a handset, went downhill when I bought "fancy" phones like "fancy" samsung sliders and iPhones.
Now I've got a Milestone and it feels solid as a brick (weighs as much too, albeit being just as big as my iphone). I'm very happy with it so I think I'll keep it for a while.

I found 4 of my old mobiles in the loft dating from the late 90s. Sadly none of them so much as turn on now so no reliving old memories. As for the total I think it's 8 and I'll be getting a new phone soon

- Started with the Mercury flip back in 1995 when I had absolutely no business with a phone. It barely rang.

- Motorola Star Tac. Complete waste of a grand but as a teen at college it was a rather swish way of taking down totty details.

- Motorola V3688. Great design but terrible reliability. Like the Star Tac it had flawless customer service that would send a courier to pick the phone up the next day and and fix it/give you a new one.

- When the phone actually served a valid business purpose I went through all of Nokia's 88 series (bar the hideous 8910) and had bought the microscopic phones with rage-inducing ring tones that were only launched in South-East Asia.

- The silver and black Motorola RZR until they were everywhere on the planet.

- Have stuck with a selection of colorware iPhone 1G's since it's launch. Skipped the 3G/3GS and picked up a 4G a few months ago as I hate to play Apple's bi-annual upgrade game. There's also something quite annoying shelling out a fair bit on a phone and having bugger-all exclusivity.

On reflection the completely unnecessary desire for these things is a little ironic considering I can't stand being on the phone. The power of gadgets overrides logic I think!
