Shock horror I had to reboot mine last night. After installing 2x app server. Uptime was 90 odd days without fault!

I think I need to get another 2tb drive to go in there. I know I need to get the memory, running on 2gb only currently
So what are the best options for OS.
I have a license for Windows Server 2008, or I could run something like FreeNAS off a 32GB USB key.
Whats the best option? I'm currently dabbling with Windows Home Server 2011. Windows 2008 will be fine on there, just don't expect fast CPU performance, it is a laptop CPU after all. Depending on what you want to do with it, if you want it for storage then FreeNAS gets a big thumbs up from me, use ZFS and the performance is great, it does need 4-6Gb minimum and really it needs 8GB. RAM is cheap enough so not really a big concern. 32GB. Memory stick is overkill, get a cheap 4GB and bung that in there. Performance doesn't matter, it's only for boot up. If you want to run other apps then your Windows 2008 install will be fine... Waste of a license for just storage though Ok. May go for a Windows 2008 install then as I fancy running DHCP server, torrent & newgroup downloader, plus something to control Backups.

So for £100 you get a chassis with no OS or HDD/s?
