Samsung Galaxy S II

18% is pretty high... my Incredible S is on 2%.
Mine started at around the same level, but soon it was actually more than the display and I've never had anything more than the display.
Can't pinpoint to a certain app TBH. Seemed pretty random.
Did you know there is a new firmware in Kies? Pity I couldn't get Kies to work because its a POS (just like it was with the old one). I've flashed that and will see how it goes.
The SGS phones are the Alfa Romeo's of the phone world, I am sure.
It depends on what else you have running. If you have the display on all the time then the OS will be a lot less but my phone has been idle for most of the day so even though the OS is 18% the battery is still full.Mine started at around the same level, but soon it was actually more than the display and I've never had anything more than the display.

Cheers. My Android OS is on 18% and battery life is great. Wonder if it is when you install a certain app?

It seems (to my outsiders eyes) that there is a system process responsible for pausing all the other processes when the phone goes to sleep. Something (and I don't know what) causes this to hang instead of doing it's job, and your battery use goes crazy.
I found that rebooting the phone each time I unplugged it from the charger stopped it happening, then when I eventually did a factory reset it fixed it permanently.
I don't know if it was an installed app which was causing it, or simply an OS bug, but it might be worth a shot before you send your phone back if you are affected.

Don't know if this info helps at all, but it seems to be an Android bug rather than an SGS bug. My HTC Desire was affected for a while.

Well, I've done a firmware update to the KE1 firmware via Odin, and then did a factory reset and got rid of all the samsung widgets, and it seems to behaving itself at the moment. Well I'm relatively happy with mine so far, with only one annoying thing... It keeps switching off. I'm wondering if it is a software fault, our getting bumped in my pocket? Very quick and great to use when it its on though
I'm on day 2 - it switched itself off once (or more precisely seemed to reboot), but no big issue. My main concern is the battery life - as raised above in this thread its not great - in fact its pretty damn awful (with average use at best, starting at 9am I'm at 20% left by 6pm...even doing nothing I don't think it'd manage 24 hours. However reading the threads seems to indicate its a software fault in the firware which causes the android OS to run at full tilt rather than sleeping when trying to suspend an application - there is a firmware upgrade which promises to fix this....ironically it won't install just now because my battery is low, but as soon as its charged enough I'll install it and report back on any improvements.
If I can sort the battery issue this is a simply amazing bit of kit!

ok, after firmware update still the same issue - if I can't find a solution soon its going pack....real pity because functionally its brilliant, but <12hrs with almost zero use is just plain st
Get it exchanged. You've got a dud phone. I'm on my 3rd SGS. I broke the first and it was unrepairable, so I used my daughters for two months. Her phone was an absolute pile of plop - battery wore down quickly, apps kept forcing close, it deleted my diary (which really pissed me off!!). Did a firmware update, same problem. Sent it away, came back, same problem. Insisted it be replaced and this third phone is fine, just like my first one.
If I hadn't had my first phone, and had only had my daughters phone, I'd have never touched another one.
Get your phone replaced.
I've ordered mine through o2, with cashback hopefully it's going to total at about £300 so I'll stick the sim card in the drawer and use my Giffgaff sim...
Only problem is I ordered, received confirmation, etc. however when I log on and track my order I get a message telling me none of my details can be found, so no idea where I stand. I guess with all the bugs that seem to being discovered at the moment, I'm not overly fussed whether I get the thing in the end or not.

Get it exchanged. You've got a dud phone. Sounds similar to mine.
There is definitely a bug though, some people are worse effected than others, and it would still be nice for a solution to be found.
Nexus One owners have had a similar issue and it appears to be have been fixed by the 2.3.4 release of Gingerbread, so maybe that'll be the answer for us too.

It is still re-booting, and the battery graph its very erratic. One minute it read 35%, then it re-booted and read 10% left. I've tried a couple of the solutions on here, which have helped the actual usage time. Overall still just a bit better than my desire for battery life.Diabolik said:
Seems to be a lot of disappointment/frustration with the bugs and problems that people are reporting on various forums....
Tempting me to cancel my order and stick with the iPhone 4 a while longer...
Thats the nature of the beast with Samsung phones, the Galaxy S line, as I have said before, is the Alfa Romeo of the phone world! When they're good, they're fantastic, when they're bad, they make you want to hurt them, badly!.Tempting me to cancel my order and stick with the iPhone 4 a while longer...
That said, I wont go back to iphone (too restrictive, screen too small), despite being a very good all rounder.

HTC Sensation anyone? Or shall I start a new thread?
Nah, you can do it here.I think there are a lot of people waiting for the Sensation, including me. But I can understand that a lot of "early adopters" jump on the SGS2 if the Sensation is released that late.
From what I've seen with the previous SGS and similar HTC phones, the HTC phones have a much more solid feel to them.
