Hello,
just got into this smartphone thing because the company gave me an S2.
I have read not sooo good things about this KIES programme from Samsung,
have used "MyPhone Explorer" with my K850i and now I see that the new version works with android.
Has anyone got experiences with MPE here ?
Another thing :
I was looking for a case that incorporates a small PAPER notebook,
did not find any and bodged together something from an old calendar,
is there something like that on the market ?
(have read the thread and followed links but did not find anything)
Why do you need the "myphone explorer"? If you plug it in, the phone can appear as a mass-storage device, you don't need any extra software.
^^^ This. Just plug it in for mass storage to copy all media across and use the cloud for email, contacts and calendar.

P.S. Official ICS update is out!!! XDA-Devs have lots of links.

yes

It's there. http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/12/samsung-heralds...

Anybody has been able to get it? My Kies tells me there's no update available yet...

I installed it from XDA via Odin. No wipe upgrade although you will loose root but there is a rooted kernel IIRC.

Thanks for the heads-up! Installed, and root too - no problems. Just needed to restart as the screen was hanging, and change the font back and forth as the sizing was ugly at first.

No probs, there are a few tweaks to be made and Sky Go doesn't work on ICS yet but it seems nice so far. Chrome browser looks nice and seems pretty stable.

Glad to hear, I shall wait until the 19th since I am already running ICS (XXLPB) anyway. Hopefully the official firmware will have the FM Tuner app back, it disappeared in my rom.

Anyone recommend a hands free solution for SGS2? My car has no blue tooth.

I'd try something like vlc which plays pretty much anything you can throw at it.

Just updated the latest firmware on mine and it is shocking!

Very juddery and slow.

It is PDA:KI8/PHONE:KI2/csc:KI2(H3G)

Is there any way to roll it back to before the update?

Flashed mine to ICS tonight. Does anyone else have a screen that looked washed-out screen afterwards? Mine doesn't seem to be as vibrant as before.

I can only concur with this, scrolling is laggy, screen input responses are patchy. Awful.

And why the feck do Samsung insist on a keyboard that covers nearly 2/3rds of the screen. When I'm typing a message in landscape mode all I can see is keyboard and what I've typed, I also want to see what I'm responding to which is perfectly possible on an iphone yet it's screen is that much smaller!

Additionally why they insist the keyboard must have a settings key is beyond me when there's a 'soft' settings key just to the left and below it.

Not impressed whatsoever with this update, and it's only been flashed literally 5 minutes.

Have you checked the screen setting? There are 3 settings, vibrant, standard and movie iirc.
