Sounds good, I hope they don't cripple the performance with their rubbish filesystem on this one.

Probably to stop it feeling like a very big phone in light of the dimensions required to house a screen that big. It's still got a large total volume to house batteries etc and the Super-AMOLED screen is significantly thinner than a conventional LCD.

Definitely an very interesting bit of kit, wish I didn't have over a year to go on my contract!
I have about 3 months left on my contract and choosing the next phone is becoming more difficult with this phone, LG Optimus x2 and 3D along with the Motorola Atrix etc all coming out soon.
Am in the same situation, but then i thought what is wrong with my Desire that i need to upgrade to? It's a perfect phone for me and
thought there is no point in keeping up with the Joneses. I really cant see what can be better than this phone.
I think that phones will be a evolution rather than a revolution that the iPhone started. 3D cameras, HD video and webtop functionality will be added along with speed increases and storage/connectivity options will come to more phones so maybe the manufacturer and physical styling will be more important than the spec which will be pretty much the same.

I have looked at a review of the Motorola Atrix and I'm really disappointed as they have locked the bootloader so custom roms can't be easily installed. The Milestone I have is the same and you have to wait for the official updates before the rom makers can get working due to having to use the official signed kernels etc. The LG Optimus x2 and 3D look interesting.

REally? I've got the Galaxy S and can honestly say it's the best phone I've ever owned.
+1 on that, and everytime an iphone comes out in retaliation to my claims of its greatness I beat it hands down.

Surprised they bothered with the poor sales of the first one.

also it's a samsung, great on paper, but rubbish to own!
You made that statement based on:
1) "internet rumours": Really? Based on that, you can't even make a phonecall with the iPhone 4
2) Personal experience with Samsung: Ok, what phone? A comparable high-end phone (like the Galaxy S) or some of the £70 phones they chuck out

I've had a couple of cheap samsungs and most of them were good value for money, I know some people with a Galaxy S who have been very happy with them, although their wide range of phones does work in both directions:

1) Galaxy S is a top model and does very good for the entire range and image, much like for example the Mercedes SLS
2) The lower ranges could have some turds in them, which might put people off the higher ranges (for example the Mercedes A)

That said, making a statement like that (like it's a general truth) is pretty bold, esp about a phone that isn't even out yet.
My personal experience:

I bought a Desire back in the summer and love it. Autumn comes around and SWMBO's phone is due an upgrade, having played with mine a bit she quite fancies an Android phone so goes off to have a look at what's available. Eventually she decides to get a Galaxy S over the Desire as she prefers the feel of it. So by now I've spent quite a lot of time playing with both and my honest and frank opinion is that compared to the Desire the Galaxy S is more useful as a doorwedge. It's slower, less responsive, less easy to use due to it's lack of buttons and feels cheaper. About the only plus points are that the screen is good, although only about as good as the Desire, and the camera is definitely better than the Desire. Mind you even with all those bad points I think it's still better than any of the iPhone 3's that I've played with. It's just that the Desire is easily the equal of the iPhone 4.

Would I go anywhere near the Galaxy S II? Based on my experiences so far, not while there is still breath in my body.

I understood that, with all the versions combined, it was actually a success for such a high-end phone?
Any numbers to show for?

The sources I've found is that they sold about half the volume of the iPhone 4 (not counting the Nexus S). So not a bad feat imho.
It also outsold the iPhone in South Korea, while the iPhone thrives in North America (Their countries)

Oh noes, a phone with a button that acts as a short-cut to a communication technology. How will we cope.

Maybe he's a touchscreen-kinda-guy, as it can really bring out the blue in the FB logo.

I'm in the market for a new door wedge and was wondering how this compares to the standard plastic wedge?

So on what assumptions are you basing your analysis on? Is it the quadrant "benchmarking" tests or simlpy your observations? Could you explain exactly how it the Desire is better? Is it merely perception?

I'm genuinely interested as I have a Galaxy S and the only problem I have had is with the GPS...It's due for renewal now and I'm considering the Galaxy S 2 as it's replacement, along with whatever HTC come out with.

Same here. The GPS was shocking when I first got the phone, but two software upgrades later, there's no problems with it at all.

I have little experience of the Galaxy S, but as far as I am aware it's mainly down to Touchwiz vs HTC Sense, with HTC Sense tending to run more quickly and smoothly irrespective of hardware. Put vanilla Android on both and the Galaxy S is the faster of the two.

I agree that the button is daft though, but I can imagine that the twitter/facebook icons are amongst the first shortcuts of a lot of smartphones, so a smartphone with a physical FB button is just the next step.

Would never want it though, but it's not as daft as a "facebook phone".

Having read a little about it, it's not quite as daft as it first sounds. It doesn't just launch the facebook app, it is context sensitive and it's action depends on what you are looking at on your phone. For example, when you are looking at a picture, pressing it will share the picture on facebook. When you are looking at a contact, pressing it will take you to their profile, etc.

Wooow.

Nope, sorry, still think it's daft hehe, not because of the functionality, but because of the "focus" -> it assumes you are on Facebook and you want to use it quite often (all the time). On top of that, there is no "dial button". But there is a FB button? That's daft to me smile

Cheers Mr Will, but again, that's not very quantitative, it's qualitative. I use my phone every day and I just don't have any lag, jerkiness (actually, I did have a problem before, but since updating to Froyo it's gone), or problems with the TouchWiz interface.

I'm just trying to work out how it is slower. Maybe it's something I havent noticed, but if pointed out, I might notice and realise it's crap. or a door wedge!

Also what does HTC have coming up that will match/better the Galaxy S 2?
