Another fairly clean import in Cumbria

but like the Bornite one it has the wrong clocks. Could be perfectly innocent but it's the kind of thing that puts one off an import.
It wouldn't put me off entirely. Although they probably just take the cheapest route to solve the problem. My G500 was a Japanese import car and it was in absolutely incredible condition.
That does look lovely, but any buyer should go in with open eyes.

A car like that, pressed into regular service, will soon show up the expense and foibles that all these cars at some point present.

Maybe part of the attraction is following in R129SL's footsteps and becoming a Master Tititivator, as happy scouring an exploded diagram on the EPC for part numbers as sitting at 110 mph on the private test track...

At least there's a chance that the clocks were changed for aesthetic reasons to the later chrome-ringed versions (the same has been done to the transmission selector surround) but I am wary of paying for lower mileage cars that need to have an excuse made for something.

hi all i have just recently had this car come into my ownership which was owned by my mum since 2008 it has done 68,000 miles only from new and had over 7k spent on it since my mum bought the car and when she bought it it came with a fully documented service history so has been serviced and maintained fully from new what would be the current value of such a car which is in near perfect condition and totally original throughout as you can see it has the amg wheels which are fitted from new thanks in advance

sorry forgot to say the car is a 1990 pre cat model one of the earlier cars thanks

500sl-32 in that nick with those miles would probably sell for £15k? I love those wheels but just not sure they suit a non-60.

Fix the antenna.

Replace the number plates.

The wheels are absolutely super in my opinion, but you will probably maximise your return by selling them separately and putting the car on standard 15 holes or 8 holes. The exhaust back box looks like original AMG (and pretty hideous) but again, I suspect you'd do better selling it separately and putting a standard item on the car. You'd get most for the back box selling it into Germany.

I'm not sure an annual maintenance expenditure of £875 (£7k into 8 years) is anything much to write home about but then again most people spend absolutely diddly squat on maintenance.

You should get £10k easily and up to £13k if you prepare the car and then advertise it properly and wait for the right buyer. You might get £15k but I think you'd have to be lucky.

No offence intended, but if you're thinking of selling, make sure you get someone to proof-read your advert.

It's possible you're typing on a phone, but the use of punctuation will make your ad read better and help sell the car. It's entirely possible that you don't intend to sell it anyway, but a good ad makes all the difference and your posting style won't necessarily read well if you're trying to sell something.

Like I said, not trying to be rude and certainly not to cause offence, but as you sought advice on the car, I thought it might be useful to make a wider comment which I hope might be helpful.

I've been trawling the classifieds, the 'bay, the auction houses and most everywhere else in search for an honest M119-engined R129 that isn't either a pile of tat or a super-shiny overpriced "collectors" car, without much luck.

Every SL - even the 6 cyl models available in varying shades of slow - must now be advertised with a reference to rising future values, photographed showing an MB owners club sticker and some mangled reference to "affordable luxury cruising style".

But just as my senses were being dulled by this flood I happened across the pinnacle, the acme of badly written, misspelt, over-optimistic R129 bullst advertising spiels, and so I feel compelled to share it here.

Don't take this as any kind of encouragement to buy the car though.

They've even photographed it in a big puddle, for that "ten pence Tom Hartley" look. banghead

^^^ Astutely observed. Especially the "ten pence Tom Hartley" bit. Why does he put his cars in a pond?

Mmm, wrong wheels, awful grille, chrome number plate surround, all-one-colour paint job and catastrophic water leak. That's before you open up the advert which could well have been cobbled together by that escapee gorilla. While he waited for the tranquilliser dart to kick in.

Muppets.

The mods. Indicators, grill, gear knob, steering wheel, and (not sure maybe a 95my?) rear lights aren't to my taste. Nor is the 3.0 12v and 4 speed box. (the wheels were a no cost option)

However if the car is in otherwise good order, well maintained, suspension and stuff done, with little to spend, it may be a good buy.

Not everyone is precious re originality or performance, the wording from an auction house or dealer won't be representative of the owner so should be disregarded.

I viewed a few cars before settling on my 320, (mistakes made yikes and plenty spent on it over the last 3 yrs) any car of this age must be viewed on it's own merits.

I would always prefer to buy privately, but not always possible.

All I can ever do is think about the guy who has to wade out to drive the car back without getting water inside.

Has this R129 also had an aftermarket airbag delete? The steering wheel centre is 80s era, no?
