Bornite with Brazil sounds amazing. I saw a Bornite SL500 at a dealer north of London about 10 years ago. I went to buy an estate and nearly came away with the SL as well. I wish I'd bought it as it was immaculate!

The colour suits the car well

Might be a silly question, but can you get toddlers in the back of these?

You know, I saw that and was sure I recognised it as well. Sure I used to see it around.

My wife who is 5'2 can sit in the back for about an hour with the lap belt on.

Luke , in response to your question. , it has been discussed on ph before .
I have fitted 3 point seatbelts to my 129 rear seats which suit my 8 and 6 year olds very well . Its an inherently very safe design. Speak with quickfitbs for helpful advice and prices. .

My daughter fitted in no problem until she was about 9. The main thing to remember is that there's a lap belt only, and I'm not sure you'd get any form of child seat in the back. I only stuck her in the back for short journeys round town.

Reading this thread (and seeing this pic in particular) inspired me to go straight to the classifieds. The r129 was an itch i'd always wanted to scratch and I now have a lovely 99 sl500! Thanks guys! smile

yes it came from Glasgow. It is currently being brought back to a higher standard finish ready for the spring.

Any updates or tasty pictures from anyone? I'm due to see a 1991 500 tomorrow morning and I can't wait!

A readers ride thread of one of the cheaper R129 would be a great read.... Actually maybe keep it in the Mercedes section and not the general gassing to stop everyone going after one smile

I have a 1999 (oval wing mirrors) SL500, fully loaded including ADS, pano roof and 5-hole Sador wheels. Owned from new, but probably worth 3/4k now. It's just visible in my profile pic.

Occasionally rather expensive to keep in fully working order, and the light grey interior is a bugger to keep clean. But it's been a fine car and I just don't have the heart to get rid of it.

There have been several very good threads on here about owning these cars. If you search back, there are some definitive posts by r129sl from, I think, a couple of years ago.

Pano roofs are £1500 plus on eBay so your 99 500 is worth a bit more than 3/4k. Same colour as my 2000 320.
