sl r129 anyone taken the risk on a 3/4k car
Discussion
I’ve just bought this for sub £4k, 300-24V with 5 speed auto & aircon & hardtop. It has a few niggles but has had a fortune spent on it recently including new fuel lines. Roof works, better after a bit of tweaking, and it drives lovely. Luckily the amber indicators were in the boot so I’ve only got the side repeaters to source.
Plans are rectify the slow drivers window, repair the clocks and service the gearbox.
Nowhere near the target price for this thread but keep coming back to this low mileage Japanese import early 500SL.
Love the colour combo and it just looks so fresh.
Imagine driving to the South of France in that interior.

Some time ago, it may have been on this thread or possible Barge1-5 someone very kindly told me a part no. & supplier for the ADS1 rear struts but I can't find it now. Is anyone able to advise please?
I've got a few niggles to get sorted and a very squeaky rear end is one of them.
Many thanks.
Also how are the cars going with those that bought earlier this year?
Well I've found the part no. 36-B29-0 and Sachs UK are saying its currently unavailable but not tried the Boge option yet.
Hopefully this will be more productive. If anyone knows any other suppliers please do let me know.
Many thanks.

I ended up spending 5 figures on my car, but I wanted a 500 really and when one in aforementioned Princess of Wales spec popped up with a history folder the size of my entire literature collection I had to have it:
Nice but Diana’s car isn’t Almandine red. It’s Cabernet red, also known as Pajett red. Just came across this thread, seems there are plenty of knowledgeable people here. I've a few questions, hoping someone can enlighten me:
1. So in regards to the later cars, and the AMG styling package. At some point it seems to have changed/facelifted into a more rounded out one. Does anyone know the model year with the cut off point between the more boxy looking amg package and the later rounded out ones ? Mirrors also seem to have changed on the later ones to a round shape as opposed to the early square ones that look much better.
2. Would a SL500 be a good grand tourer today? Is it stable at higher speeds (150-180 km/h / 90-110 mph)? Does it do a good job on keeping the wind noise out of the cabin? I know it's not a fair comparison but how would it stand up against a modern Merc? Say a C/E class coupe?
Thanks!
