This red one was at William Loughran for sale recently ?
Bonkers money in my view
Buying with such low mileage means you can't use it so it's a museum piece at best

Providing it's problem-free and all as advertised I am highly confident they will sell that for over £20K come the spring. To someone who has four or five other cars and will do no more than 1000 miles a year in it because that's all they want to do. My local car storage place is full of cars like that which get very little use.

"31 MPG" and "Tank range 546 miles" are the real comedy lines in that advert.

18 gallon tank and 30 mpg would give 540 miles. Not so far fetched on a long run in a 5 speed V8....

Don't think I could negotiate a price on the red one that was anywhere near my budget I'm afraid. The blue one is nearer to what I have available.

Hmm. Nitpicking, 17.5 gallons and that's to stranded at the roadside. I don't think 30 mpg is realistically on for the duration of a full tank on a V8 R129, even with the 3-valve engine and 5-speed. Best I can do over the course of a tank in my early 4-speed M119-engined car is about 22 or 23, sticking to 70 mph, with the hard top on and and staying religiously off the brakes, and the SL Shop folk reckon I might be light footed to achieve that. I wouldn't consider 27-28 completely out of the realm of possibility for a late 5-speed with the 3-valve engine.

I'll settle for "late 400s" wink

CCA's valuation of the blue car may be influenced by their sale of this car 18 months ago

http://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/mercedes-benz-...

From the photos it had been offered for sale by the SL Shop (presumably asking proper money) but had no takers. Being a 93-95 car it would have the dodgy wiring insulation and need a new loom but that's a one-off cost item for replacement (£1600?) or repair (£800? plus the cost of getting it to down to the guru in Kent).

Perhaps the market doesn't like amber indicators and colours other than silver and black, in which case more wonderful cars for the rest of us.

Stranded sums it up nicely lol. It's amazing how much is left in the tank at zero on the gauge if you are feeling brave. I think the manual says 29mpg extra urban which is 75mph iirc. Drive below that with AC off and 30 is doable. Motorway work generally sees 26-30mpg in my 32v depending on traffic speed. Soft top sees less mpg than with hard top of course.

450 miles is my single tank record. Very rarely do I get more than 375. Usual fill is about 68 litres, maybe 20 miles after the light comes on.

Does anyone know how many Mille Miglia SL500's were built?

I believe, but cannot prove conclusively, that it was 1000 cars in total(unsurprisingly, suiting the name) of which 500 were V8 and 500 were six-cylinder.

Well I was about to ask if there was anyone in Aylesbury that would look at the red 500 that just appeared on ebay today but went back to copy the link and it's been ended.

It appears that a total 630 Mille Miglia R129's were built based on the SL320 and SL500 but I don't have breakdowns for the individual engine sizes.

I'm toying with selling mine along with my ClS500 so I can buy a 09/10 CL500.

149,900 miles 1997 facelift SL280. Works beautifully. Green with beige leather. No rust. Great fuel pressure. Just had a full service Inc gearbox fluids and filter. Upgraded front seals for softtop latches. Premium brand tyres. Bluetooth stereo. Hardtop stand and bag. Car cover. Blah, blah, blah.

No idea how much to ask, but suspect not much.

sorry.. been out of the country for a few days.

i got the seals from these guys http://www.shop.mjprodukte.de/Produkte-fuer-Merced... Typically Germanic efficiency. The seals arrived a couple of days later and my local garage fitted them for me as a favour (not really their usual work, but we get on well).

the seals that were replaced were for the locking catches above the windscreen. one was leaking, so i had both replaced (as when you replace just one, the other will usually start leaking).

Straight six M104-engined SL320 not the later V6 but for the money I think you could do worse than take a look. Would have expected the dealer to price this 2k higher.

A 65000 mile pano-roofed V6 SL320 in good condition sold for 15200+commission at auction recently, despite having had no takers when advertised at 12500 with a reputable specialist for a loooooong time rolleyes

Trailing edge of the hardtop looks chipped as though the top has been stood on a concrete garage floor. Continentals on the rears, Avon on the rears. And some people's idea of a full MB service history is nothing short of comical. But apart from a front steering pivot episode it has failed MOTs on things like bulb colour, headlight alignment and the fuel cap sealing washer perishing.

Is it bad that I'm just pricing up 225/55/R16 winter tyres?
