It must be rough if they have to discount the cheapest car on sale and when you consider it has a Tier 1 warranty making it more desirable it seems odd.

Highest mileage I've seen though not high by normal standards it's just that these cars all seem to have such low mileage.

Mine's done 17k and I'm reluctant to use it now ffs.......just stupid

How bad is the whine? My present car (roadster) and my previous gullwing both made a strange noise occasionally when at low speed, somewhere near the middle of the rear axle (hard to define exactly where and of course never happens when you try to show the dealer). I thought it strange that both cars made exactly the same noise, sometimes it sounds like metal on metal but the dealers say nobody else has complained about this.

It's not bad, and all SLS's I've driven have had a whine to some extent. It's hard to tell if mine is any worse but it's at the 'noticeable' end of the spectrum! I'm not sure the whine is the reason for the replacement as the car has had warranty work on the gearbox previously (but only for an oil leak) - maybe it's related to that but until they update me, I'm none the wiser.

The noise you describe sounds like the diff, which is fairly normal - all Mercs I've had with a LSD have made some kind of noise during manoeuvring but the SLS is more noticeable as you sit much closer to it with less sound deadening.

I think it's down to spec and that car at Milton Keynes is a very basic car - I considered it whilst I trying to buy one as there was such little choice, (especially if you don't want silver!) but in the end, I'd rather spend more and get a car with some of the desirable option fitted. As it seems do others - more expensive examples have sold since this one has been for sale.

How is everyone managing to get the Gearbox upgrade??

I have taken mine to the local dealer TWICE - and begged the to sort it out....the first time they plugged it in to the diagnostics and said - "nope - there is no upgrade listed"...the second time the same thing - and I insisted they contact Mercedes "technical team" who said the same thing.....and that if I wanted an upgrade it would need to go to AMG in Germany.

So anyone got any idea how they managed to get the 'GT" spec software installed?...anything in particular they had to ask for - or obtain intervention form anyone in particular at Mercedes UK?

Call Mercedes Brooklands and get it booked in there. Mine went in and they performed several software upgrades (not GT gearbox software but something similar which has totally tranformed the car) which had not been available by my local supplying dealer despite the car being supplied new last year. I would only send mine to Brooklands now as they deal with these cars every day, the smaller dealers rarely see them so do not know what they're doing and do not offer good enough service levels.

I assume it depends on dealer. I believe Palmball had his done in Birmingham(?). I booked mine into brooklands mentioning that the gearbox was a bit hesitant and manual changes were really slow. They said gearbox was working within parameters but performed an available software update under warranty.

What was really impressive about brooklands was that they tried to explain something they had found out of place on the car but instead of wasting time decided to send a very high quality video by email instead detailing in depth what they had found. Never had that before!

Cheers Lee, yeah got it and responded - Thanks!

Think I will give Brooklands a call and see what they say - though in fairness that I such a track for me I might as well take it to Affalterbach!

Maybe try to tell them your gearbox doesn't appear to be functioning properly. I told them it was a bit rough changing from second to third in comfort and also mentioned the manual change was very slow. They did the update under warranty which, as well as saving strip to AMG, was done for free. Now I don't know if the AMG update is different but the update done at brooklands is way way better than what it was originally. The trip to affalterbach could be made with a better gearbox!

I took the plunge some 6 weeks ago after deliberating for several months. Eventually found one to my likeing, ex Isle of Man car. Although it is a 2010 car it only had 2.5 k miles on the clock, still smelt and looked like new. First service at 478 miles, second at 1070 and third at 2200. I originally had my name down before they came out in 2010 but when the dealer wanted a 20k none refundable deposit I quickly changed my mind, glad I did as big discounts were on offer later on.
I just love this car so very different from my othe MB's I have 6 in all. After reading some posts on the gearbox upgrade I took mine to MB Lincoln and they did the gearbox upgrade even though my car is out of warranty, only charged £30 while I waited. Also carried out 3 other upgrades free of charge. Great service. The car is boring MB silver with black and silver stitching but I love it.,any other owners in the Midlands Area fancy a meet up sometime?
I believe there is a breakfast meet at the Sherwood Business Park on Saturday morning, anyone going?

Interesting to hear you got your TCU upgrade at Lincoln because I bought mine from them and they never offered or suggested doing it on mine!

Has anyone else had surface rust in the rear brake area? On the hubs in the middle of the discs

MB refused to cover mine under warranty which I thought was poor on their flagship car.

Mine did on the C63 PPP. Rears only. Are the SLS rears the same as the C63 composite brake package items?

Hi thepanays,

I went on Saturday and there was a much bigger turn-out than the month before. The meets have finished now until next year.
I believe the event is sponsored/organised by Evens Halshaw, so you get quite a few dealers there with their demonstrators.
It's worth going just for the free coffee and bacon roll!

I'd be interested in a meet-up sometime. I suggested it a while back but got no response.
Maybe a good idea would be to meet at the next Sherwood Business Park event?
